What'd be the use with Wikipedia, Amazon, Google, etc. (aka sites that actually matter) doing their bit against a bill that's already dead in the water anyway? All these little sites jumping on the bandwagon like anyone gives a shit about them can go fuck themselves. Oh noez, ScrewAttack isn't going to E3? Who really gives a fuck? I'm glad VGChartz isn't getting in on this trendy shit.*

* Unless ioi replaces all the ads with "hatmoza is a cunt" banners. That would really show SOPA what's up!

Grassroots solidarity (especially with all my favorite webcomics, it seems) goes a long way toward showing that killing these bills isn't just a push by major tech companies.

But it is, really. If you didn't have so many of the giants whom you might expect to favor SOPA coming out against it, the bill likely wouldn't be dead. But they are and it is, and no one cares that you're taking your tumblr account down for the day, you hypothetical spotty faced teenaged fuck!

The petitions and whatnot are fair game, but the rest of it is just so typically masturbatory of people nowadays that it makes me want to put my head through my monitor.

I'm talking more about the fairly major sites (like MS Paint Adventures, which gets well over a million visitors a day) initiating a blackout and directing people to petitions. Or Dinosaur Comics, that's a good example. Taking the people who like your work and directing them so that hundreds of thousands of voices are slamming up against Congress all at once? There's nothing bad about that.

Its just amazing how much your average post matches your avatar.

OT: Just go to the petition links and do your part!

Thread title edited - ALL CAPS IS ANNOYING

'Needs', not very libertarian phrasing there superchunk.

Personally, I don't think we should. No point harming the site (loss of all ad revenue for the day) to make a futile and rather pointless gesture of protest. Just because some other small sites are jumping on the bandwagon doesn't mean we should follow suit.

Fully have to agree with Machina here, it isn't in the site's best interest to block out all ad revenue and traffic for a whole day.

Thanks for your use of over bearing powers.. this is the type of censorship I'm talking about people!! ;)

Calling people to actively be part of their government to fight against a further attack on their freedoms, is very libertarian and something I know Dr. Paul would do.

However, I do see you're point considering the low level traffic this site gets anyways. Hopefully, there is enough forum threads that do the same anyways. Maybe I can keep this thread alive long enough to get a lot of US VGCers attention.

If you want to protest stop using the internet for a day... Don't ask what VGchartz can do but what you can do to stop SOPA...

I'll be here continuing making use of this site while you stop being on the internet...

Or just follow the links and sign the petitions/send emails to your reps. Takes just a couple mins each and makes more of a difference than anything else.

I hate a bandwagon, that's what's bad about it!

Calm down Badgenome, it makes them feel important! Like they're making a real difference in the world.
