3DS (as DS) is successful because it integrates mobile features like touch and 3D. Those are not gimmicks but things that work for tons of people. Touchscreen was a gimmick in 2005, now everybody has played their few DS games and they were surely not just using buttons. If you can't think of any experience that may be offered by 3D in the future go read a book and develop some fantasy.

Nintendo tries to put these mobile technologies into their handhelds (and even WiiU now) to stand a chance. Sony doesn't.

points 1-4 are the same reasons people gave when the 3DS sales began to struggle. Only difference is with point 4 replace 'second set of shoulder buttons' with 'second analogue stick'

point 1 is the worst. you could say that about the snes or ps2, it BS

we're just showing the infancy of this site imo, i bet most consoles don't storm out the gate its just we never had the luxury of knowing before.

we we spoilt with the wii coming out the same time this site started, we expect everything to have to release to wii levels/hype or its domed!

Rol, about half the time, is something of an implicitly sanctioned troll who acts as a kind of barometer for reasonable reactions in newbies. He takes arguments he sees as fallacious or unreasonable, reframes them in the context of things that the original posters like, and then makes a new thread out of it. This thread in particular was made in response to people who thought the Vita would wax bad and beat the Hell out of the 3DS due to a superior set of controls, better hardware, and more console-centric games.

1) Looking at the entire system, the 3DS looks more like the DS than the Vita does a PSP.

2) Again, same can be said for the 3DS and that's doing fine.

4) Rear touch pad makes this a non issue...

5) inferior? No. Especially when it comes to the screen. 3D has more minus than Vita's touch screen OLED.
