there I now here by claim that you are also part of the manly X club!

you guys understand what he is saying? for the life of me, i cant figure what the hell he is trying to say. the sentence fragments are just sooooo broken. i litterally can only make out like 40% of what he is trying to say. i think

yea I kinda do :D I am an International student so not only is English my second language I work with a lot of other international students as well, so I'm used to it. I don't think he means to be rude or anything, it's just that it can come off as such at times

English not even my third language

I wouldn't let it bother you too much (if it actually does).  I don't know why people really rag on others about their English.  First of all, we're all going to make mistakes.  And second, we're on an international website, so there are obviously going to be people who don't speak English as their first language.

Okay we know MS sold more than 66 million units and people here just don't accpet to believe this number and say they were stuffing the channels.
This is a serious question: How can you actually "stuff the channels?" Do you force retailer to buy 360s, even though they don't think to sell them?

Thanks

ok, let just say MS did sell 66 million units.
Now where is the difference, where is the 360 undertracked?

It's really easy to guess what happened here. Almost 99% of people expected the 360 to sell over 2.5 million units in the US, no one would have guessed they would selll less than last year, so retailers odered enough to at least have enough for 2.5 million. But, for a console we thought was in huge demand, there was no claim of sellout, it was always available, that's not normal. Retailers miscalculated and MS sent them what they ordered. NPD just put everything into reality.

The bolded part: You make it sound like this is something we are not sure about. It is confirmed and reported that MS shipped (sold to retailer) more than 66 million consoles.

For the rest of the statement: Why do people blame MS for delivering what the retailers ordered? So MS did not overshipped the Xbox 360, retailers overordered them. And according to this logic, MS shipments for the next quarter should be somewhere in the 800k - 1 million region, because there are about 1 million consoles at the retailers in the US alone. They would never order even more in Q1 2012.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

No, DirtyP2002, that is wrong. MS said over 66 million SOLD as in sold to consumers, not sold to retail. When MS says sold that is always what they mean. They say shipped when talking about sold to retailers.

again, can be sold to retailer.

Anyway, we will find out soon. I say it is shipped, which is a crazy achievement ayway. This is more than the PS3 ever did in one year. This would mean they shipped 15.1 million for 2011.

but to keep the discussion going, here is what Micosoft had to say on their youtube-account.

"With 66 million Xbox 360 consoles in action and 18 million Kinect sensors sold, 2011 was truly the year of the Xbox."

When companies like Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo say SOLD, they almost always mean sold to retailers - it is especially obvious in this case.

My guess is that the difference is that PS3 is being overtracked in Europe mainly, and in other smaller areas like South America, the Middle East and Mexico/Canada.

360 is probably undertracked a bit in those territories as well, but IMO, it is mainly that PS3 is being overtracked by VGChartz in the areas with no formal tracking and reporting.

Pulling the PS3 into this won't make a difference.

Microsoft said they sold 66m, NPD and VGC says 63m - 64m. It doesn't matter if the PS3 is undertracked or overtracked, it doesn't even matter if the 360 is undertracked or overtracked either as it would barely make a difference. The question is, where did those other 2m+ consoles "sell"?

Funnily enough in most cases in the past MS actually meant "SOLD" as "SOLD to the consumer" hence the confusion now, I think this time around they meant shipped though. So I can see why some people would think that it's a sold amount in this case, going by the past trends. They used to say "Kinect sold 10m" and it did, shipments were like 10.8 or something at the time.

Sony, however, always uses shipped numbers and labels them as sold.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

maybe MS was secretly able to sneak in 2m X360s into China? :p

I just found out where those 2m Xbox 360 are

lol! I remember when Sony and the PS3 was at the recieving end of these lol!

But seriously, why not just wait for Nintendo's financial report for Europe numbers then if the X360 is massively undertracked there then all the nay sayers can eat a palatter of crow. and if its overtracked like no ones business then all the supporters gets the crow.
