Forums - Nintendo - WiiU walkthrough and demo at CES

Saw that video a few days ago the street demo was quite a nice feat, also why do people think the U is going for the tablet market? Get it out your heads the U controller is not a tablet and was never intended to be one it doesn't even have a CPU and GPU in the controller for a start it's just bring touch screens to home consoles.

It will likely not sell anywhere near the original wii due to the already massive tablet market. Obviously they recognize this being a problem, as they are trying to distance the system from being labeled a tablet of any kind. We know the M$ is probably already putting together a software update that will enable all windows 8 tablets to link to the nextbox and thus eliminate nintendo's thunder a bit if not entirely. It will depend on how portable the wiiU controller is without the system. We will have to wait til summer to have a real good idea of the true specs of the wiiU.

Dont even think that a software update will be required. Already have capability for Xbox Companion devices.  Just need an app that supports the gameplay functionality desired. A phone or tablet with front and rear facing cameras will do the trick.

Not saying you are wrong but without a d-pad, buttons etc.,  a tablet can never quite "do the trick".

Some games, yes. For others a tablet will be found severely lacking and take away significantly from the gameplay.

I do however see your point. Vita and tablet apps can do the same to PS3.

As ladyguy said this is all rather speculative and when we get a more indepth look at the wii u capabilities then better conclusions can be drawn.

And since tablets and phones are multi-touch they will be able to do things that the Wii U cant as well.  We wont know which is better for quite some time.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

The only thing that really impressed me, was the Link/Zelda "demo". And I am skeptical as to how you will have to play it. Sometimes, I wish Nintendo would stop trying to reinvent the wheel of gaming and just make some great controller(not motion) games. We'll see how well it sells. I think I will wait until all of the big three release their next generation consoles.

The one built for gaming will be better for gaming.

Totally agree.

Hang on!!... I thought the wii u controller was multi-touch and can work with or without a stylus. I don't know.

Yeah, let's wait and see.

Yeah ... and there are so many Windows tablets on the market ... even on smartphones Microsoft has not the slightest chance against android and iOS. In three years from now there will be a lot of more Wii U Tablets in households than Windows 8 Tablets.

it does look very cool... but i was watching the video and i was always wondering... should i look at the TV or at the tablet? that could be overly used by devs and make the game be missed by gamers because we are looking at the wrong thing at the wrong time.
