Forums - Nintendo - GameTrailers: Reggie's CES interview

I wonder if I will be able to watch this without feeling an urge to punch Reggie in the face.

'We don't care what our competitors are doing, we don't care what the wider entertainment industry is doing'

If that's true, that's such a terrible way for a company to run itself

After watching that interview, I think you should be more worried about feeling that way about the lady in black.

I actually liked her. She really did her best to join the discussion even though she apparently know zero about games (Wii Yoga?). I'm worried about whoever decided to put her there.

And her dress was fabulous.

It would be a terrible way for a company to run itself. I doubt it's true though, it's just a PR line to reinforce the Nintendo's "doing its own thang/driving gaming innovation" image. If they didn't pay very close attention to what their competitors were doing they would never have launched the Wii, which was purposely designed to "disrupt" the video game market.

Nintendo shouldn't care, because they're in the business of selling their own systems, and have one effective tool to use in the sale of such systems (e.g. first party games) that bears little on what anyone else is doing

Nintendo only need follow industry trends very vaguely and broadly, to minimize the amount of good excuses third parties have for not developing on the platform (but of course, 3rd parties will take the bad or irrational excuses, so that point is almost moot as well.)
