Forums - Sony - PS4 early specs 'more powerful' than Xbox 720, claims source

If Sony were going to change the direction their gaming division is headed in wouldn't they have started with the Vita which is, let's face it, just the PS3 again?

Not necessarily ...

If you consider that you would want your hardware to be mostly finished 24 months before you launch, and that it will take around 24 to 36 months to develop these systems from basic concepts to completion, most systems will begin conceptual development soon after their previous system launched. While there would have been time to modify the direction, a large portion of the conceptual design of the PS-Vita would have been done between the launch of the PSP and the PS-Vita under the direction of Ken Kutaragi with a similar philosophy as what produced the PS3. In contrast, the PS4 would have been in conceptual development in the wake of the PS3's release under the direction of Kaz Hirai.

Essentially, the system I would expect to represent a clear break from the design philosophy that created the PS3 would be the PS4 simply because it would be the first system to undergo its entire development after the PS3 released.

No.  Vita is launching at the same price as the PSP did. Considering its a much more powerful device, this isn't like the PS3 at all.

Vita uses powerful, but relatively cheaper components. Mobile tech advances extremely fast so tech is always improving and costs will go down fast. Vita will be profitable in a year or two if it isn't already.

The memory card prices put the Vita at a much higher price point than the PSP at launch. Additionally, the Vita seems focused on core gaming, another pitfall of the PS3. Whether or not indie developers embrace the system remains to be seem though. I certainly hope that Sony gets its act together.

Edit: The PSP launched in Japan at a price of about $180, even without taking the discrepancy in memory card pricing that's a big jump in price.

Stop it wth the funnies you is killing me!!!

So this mystery source knows the following...The specs and release dates of not one company confidential next gen console but two...

Well never mind the world is coming to an end this year and that is a much older source probably just as reliable (we hope).

If you're including tax it comes close, but no. 3G model, yes.

Whoops, meant the 3G model. Although with the 13% sales tax I'd have to pay it would end up costing $395.48 for the WiFi model and 32 Gig memory card where I live. The 3G model would cost $451.98 with the memory card after taxes :( ... Dear god did Sony not learn a single lesson?
