No, not even a little bit. Getting together with a group of friends and playing custom games in Halo. That's just a different level of fun. Or playing Horde mode in Gears 3 with 5 friends. You just can't replace that type of fun.

FPS games are exactly what I was talking about. They're not my favorite genre by any means, but FPS games and by extension shooters such as Gears and Uncharted continually focus more on online as campaigns shrink appropriately (Uncharted not so much). EA even went so far as to say that the campaign for Battlefield 3 was little more than a practice session for online to paraphrase. I don't have a major issue with it, but as someone who primarily just plays campaigns on the FPS games I buy and typically only dabbles with MP online, it does make paying $60 for a new release a lot less tempting. But racing games, like fighting games, are only improved dramatically by the addition of online competitive play. Co-op online play is another great addition in games such as Borderlands, Dead Island and L4D which wouldn't be the same games without it. |
Well in BF defense, wasnt that game always online?? i was under the impression that it was a strictly multiplayer game or always focused on that component. Which is why i avoid that game

While I'm not sure how the console version is handled, on PC yes; you HAVE to be logged on through EA's network in order to play the single player game which I found to be more than just a little annoying. It actually opens your web browser and makes you launch the game from there.
The campaign story itself was told in retrospect during an interrogation session which reminded me of CoD Black Ops more than anything else, other than taking place in the present/near future.
While I realize it was Battlefield 3 and not Battlefield Bad Company 3, I will have to say that it was the characters in BBC that made me want to play more. Entertaining, humorous, etc. None of which showed up in BF3.
Online gaming has changed dramatically since 2006, back then it was legendary, competitive, hard. Now COD rules the world.
