I don't like playing online in general, and therefore it scares me a bit the way the industry is headed, but what can you do. There's still plenty of options for those of us who like playing offline still though.

Lots of things can be done just enough ppl aren't educated In what giving into certain things mean if they become permanent.

You don't seem to understand how things work. Online games got popular ONLY because enough people prefered playing online games to single player ones. There is no conspiracy its simply supply and demand. The type of games most people buy are the type of games that are more likely to get made. There is nothing you personally can do about the way the industry is heading. Just buy the type of games you enjoy and ignore the ones you don't. There will always be an audience for single player and multiplayer games.

As for the threadstarter's complaint, most online games still have splitscreen. I myself have played lan battles of halo 3 and nazi zombies with a bunch of friends by bringing a bunch of tvs and xboxes to one person's house. I agree it makes the game a lot less competitive and a lot more about having a good time. There is nothing stopping you from still doing that. Infact recently more and more games that have once restricted splitscreen have been adding that feature.

And to those thinking single player experience have gone down the drain, you simply aren't looking hard enough. Yes there aren't as many retail games that are completely focused on the single player experience, but there is a ridiculous amount of quality indie games with amazing single player experiences that rival the best retail games.

Nobody stated there was a lack single player games... the "what if they were to vanish". Your post didnt say anything in opposition to mine. Your right ppl DO perfer online to Single now with mindset read my post(s) again .. lol

Hell no. I love my online mp games, offline mp games, and sp games equally. All of which have been satisfied this gen, so no.

Not really. I'm not a big fan of online gaming but there's demand for online features so there's not much you can do. As long as I get awsome single player experiences like Bioshock, Zelda, Xenoblade and Skyrim I'm happy.

lol... do you xxpect those to continue, there several times past when developers have flat out stated they wouldn't mind gettin rid single play modes. So lets that demand continues and we actually do start to lose Single player modes then how do you feel?

Well that's when I'll stop playing games. Hopefully there are enough of us to keep the demand up for single player games.

I have been wanting to make this thread for a quiet sometime now. As most of yall well know, This Gen has been dominated by shooters and online games in general. I remember when i was younger if i wanted to play with one or more of my friends online on my PS2, We would meet up at one of our houses and bring both our PS2 and 22 inch tv's with us and a small suitcase. This is not the case anymore...

I know technology is helping us for the better and all, But i kinda miss the days where you and your friends were in one place at one time playing the same game together and actually having fun together. Now days it seems people play online for competitve reasons and take gaming in general WAY to serious. I mean its good to try your best playing a game since most people dont like to lose and all, But i think people need to just sometimes let loose and play games just to have some fun and some free time from reality.

I'm not bad online I just feel sick when competing with people who take gaming serious. I'd personally prefer playing must of my mutliplayer games on co-op where the goal isn't to butcher each other... and where petty egos don't usually collide and cause drama... (But thats just me)

Long Story short. It seems like most people are not having as much fun playing games anymore for the fact that they take it to serious. I also really feel bad for the younger generation of gamers as they probably very rarely get to spend actualy time playing games with there friends over each other places..

Let's get back to playing games to have fun please!!!

(I miss this game so much... Sega at their prime)

Is that K-pop?

Yay!!!

I agree for the most part, online is ok for some games, but it should not force devs to consider the online as a fundamental part of each game. I would rather ask devs to focus on gameplay and story than online.

Edit: Offtopic... who's the girl waving and sending kisses on your sig? I am getting in love the more I see her :)

They are both models promoting a car. Dont know who exactly they are though. :(

You can't use the actions of a few to imply that that's something that's going to be common with the industry. This is never going happen amongst the majority of developers. There's no reason to worry about any drastic decrease in single player modes. Single-player modes aren't in any danger, aside from games with mediocre single player modes.

The only reason we've seen this dramatic increase in online demand is because this generation has been the first to mainstream. The balance between single player and multiplayer games should likely stabilize after this gen when the novelty of online gaming wears off.

Sorta. I think there's some obviously great pluses from it but for me personally, i'm not really into it. I hate it's being focused on so much. It's hard to argue that it isn't damaging the single player experience which is what I personally care about.

4 ≈ One

I used to, but the reality is, im not in grade school anymore. Its damn near impossible for me to get my friends over to play some local MP. THey either live in different towns, have families, have careers or just flat out dont play games anymore. I depend on online to get most of my MP fixes and I like playing fighters to improve my skills cause the CPU doesnt cut it. The only genre that really suffered is FPS, the SP campaigns have become boring, but with COD doing those kinda numbers what can you do??

Also, PS3News, this gen hasn't been dominated by online games. Let's take a look at some of biggest IPs on the PS3 (which I assume is your console of choice).

Call of Duty: Mainly Online

Grand Theft Auto: Mainly offline

Gran Turismo: Mainly offline

Metal Gear Solid: Mainly offline

Uncharted: Mainly offline

Assassin's Creed: Mainly offline

Fifa: Mainly offline

LittleBigPlanet: About Even

Final Fantasy: Completely offline

Red Dead Redemption: Mainly offline

Resident Evil: Mainly offline

God of War: Completely offline

Battlefield: Mainly online

Batman: Completely offline (in terms of gameplay)

Killzone: Mainly online

Fallout: Completely offline

The Elder Scrolls: Completely offline

Aside from Battlefield and Call of Duty, online gaming isn't all that dominant
