The main clutch of the article is right, but filled with a lot of guff that doesn't make sense.

Sony needs to realize that they don't have the brandname power to sell high-end, expensive products like Apple does. Seriously, fifty dollar handheld games? FIFTY DOLLAR HANDHELD GAMES? Meanwhile the 3DS has several games on sale and the most popular titles are at $40. I'm positive that the Vita will improve in sales and we'll look back at this period a couple years later in amusement. But Sony definitely needs a change in their business model. |
Yeah, $50 handheld games....so? Uncharted Golden Abyss has better graphics and game play than any $50 CONSOLE game. Being on a handheld doesn't automatically mean it's less worthy as a game.

Except you'll be playing Golden Abyss on a 5 inch screen. Point is, at a time when phones are making games cheaper than ever, games on dedicated handhelds are going up to as much as $50 (in a tough economy no less). It's a little more excusable on the 3DS since the system itself is cheaper, but I still don't like the practice one bit.
By the way, nice job saying Golden Abyss will have better gameplay than ANY $50 console game. Really lending credibility to your point.

It is the same. He is implying that the 3DS will barely hit that mark in the next couple of years, when the thing is selling at a faster pace than the original DS. That statement is ridiculous.

pwin´ every other villain since 1994
I agree with the overall feeling that 50$ handheld games are too much...I wouldn't even pay 50€ for a SE version of a game that I really want for any handheld, much less for any regular game >_>.
Sony really has no notion of reality if they do mantain those prices.

When is the US and Europe launch for the Vita?
$250 isn't too horrible expensive for a really good handheld. I know if I had $250 to mess around with I'd probably get the Vita.
Anyways give it some time before we doom it. The 3DS didn't do so well before the price cut but look at it now.

The 3DS could sell 35 million in one year and he would still be saying the same thing. Just take it as a grain of salt. Its doing well and there really isn't aything he can do about it. People tried so hard to do the same thing with the macbook air, saying "it's only 16% of mac sales, is the macbook air doomed?" little did they know macbook sales increased by double that year and macbook air did fine.

"There is no doubt that Nintendo’s 3DS is going to sell at least 20 Million units globally over the next couple of years"

No it is not the same; AT LEAST like in 'minimum sell 20 million' . Honestly i just expect you read it wrong and you can't stand Machina corrected you and that is why you are trying to spin it now;.
What they should do, before the launch of a major title or holiday season, discontinue the 3G model and drop Wifi model to $199.
A steady release of decent games is needed too, the launch lineup is good but too many dead periods following that.
