How do you know?

The dramatic 3DS price cut happened after the official launch price of Vita was announced and many people got worried Vita would be considered too expensive and here we have relatively week launch sales. I think it's inevitable.

3DS was being sold for about as much more as they dropped the price, vita is being sold at cost or at a loss and the price won't drop until the manufacturing cost drops.

Because Sony have never dropped the price further on a product that is making a loss :-S

Not without dropping the manufactoring cost.

I've lost count on how many PS3 price cuts there have been so I won't argue that. Not that it's a lock in for price cuts only to occur when the manufacturing costs drop, 3DS is the first drastic price cutting we've seen in a long time, so if Sony got scared 3DS was running away with marketshare everywhere (and lets face it, they live for marketshare) they might cut regardless of cheaper manufacturing costs. And what's not say they don't lower costs by next August and mirror the 3DS's path almost exactly?

I'm not saying they will, I think it's more logical for Sony not to cut, but I really don't think it can be called.

Not within months of launch. How long did it take Sony to cut the price of the PS3?

No idea, they were losing a crap load more on PS3 than they are on Vita by the sounds of it though.

Maybe the consumers learned from what happened to the 3DS and are forcing a price cut on Vita.

Its never going to happen.

The only reason the 3DS got a price cut was because Nintendo overpriced it at launch. They were being kinda greedy.

But Sony had said that they are taking a loss on Vita, so there is no room for a price cut. Yes, it is expensive compared to the 3DS but there's a reason for that. Its a much more powerful system. All the Vita needs now is a killer-app.

The weak launch sales are due to it launching too late in the holidays, and strong competition from the 3DS which is being marketed towards kids. The DS is already being phased out so the 3DS is essentially taking its place. Sony needs to start phashing out the PSP to increase Vita sales.

Yes, Nintendo got greedy and overpriced but I remember Pachter saying that a $250 3DS would be supply constrained for at least one year.

I forgot that Sony is taking a loss on every Vita sold but that is quite expected. Anyway, is there a Vita killer app on the horizon?

Dont' know about Japanese killer-apps but there is supposed to be a COD game released on Vita. That could really boost sales in the West.

I can not believe some people actually expected 200k+ second week... that said i didn't expect it to go below 100k! I think it will take the Vita a while to get to a million :/

Well if they cut in August it would be like 9 months after the japan launch as oppossed to 3DS which was 6 months so almost exactly is pushing it quite a bit. They also won't cut regardless of manufactoring costs, they might desperately try to lower the manufactoring cost (like they did with ps3 when they took out BC) in order to cut it but that's about it. I sincerely doubt they'll cut the price within 6 months, 9 months maybe and at/after a year they'll cut for sure.

Oh great, now whenever Vita turns it around we will hear all this same bullshit "Great sales for a dead console!" or "but I thought VIta waz d00med!"

Sales are awful for Vita but stop overreacting people. Somehow we managed to turn the 3DS into a great underdog story when it was the followup of the one of the greatest selling machines in history.
