This thread is sooooo interesting. New gen new story. While the Vita Numbers are bad I predict that it will follow the trend of the PSP and PS3. It will sell better over time. I also expect 3DS numbers to decline unless it sees more expanded audience games. The redesign that I predict that is on the way will help it sell higher. Anyway this thread will be fun to look at four years from now I'm bookmarking it.

Mario kart and Mario are games that sell in the 20 mil range, how is that not expanded audience.

It's so funny to see people trying to find excuses for Vita's failure and PS3 behind the Wii this week...

Uhhh, well, the second week of Vita only has 7 days.

It takes a special kind of something to have your seven(?)-year-old handheld outsell your brand new handheld. Nice job, PSP!

In memory of Topless Avatars Pertaining to Hotness and Titilation (TAPTHAT).

3DS friend code: 5155 - 2983 - 3034

.....Is anyone surprised? I mean Nintendo still has the momentum of the price cut +Super Mario 3D Land + Mario Kart 7 + Monster Hunter. The Vita had no chance of outselling the 3DS launching this late in the holidays. The holidays are a time for parents to buy something for their kids. Will they buy some new device that just came out or the 3DS which has ads all over TV and the just released Monster Hunter? Oh plus the 3DS is pretty cheap, its a no brainer for a smart parent.

People are over reacting to Vita's sales -- Its second week is around what PSP did. Give it a few months and it'll still be selling decently. Vita's success should come from it generating profit, selling more than the PSP and having great games not based on its launch sales (besides people here called PS3 doomed when it started selling below expectations -- now its sold quite well. People called 3DS doomed as soon as sales tanked a month after it launched. Now look at it.

On another note PSP sales are amazing in Japan at the moment.

I think Sony's selling it a loss (last I heard)

You do know the PSP also outsold the 3DS a couple of weeks right? I believe it was about 2:1 earlier this year pre-price cut.

Anyway the reason PSP outsold the Vita..
-Its cheaper
-It has a huge catalog of games
-Its cheaper

Not in Japan, in Japan Christmas is actually about the exchange of gifts between significant others (husband-wife boyfriend-girlfriend).

Question! What are the big Vita releases for the next month or so? I know about the 3DS's next few months of software, and they look good, but is the Vita going to have a drought like the 3DS did, or will it quickly receive new software.

For the record, here are the 3DS's next few months of notable titles in Japan.

January: Ace Combat 3D, Beyond the Labyrinth, Rhythm Thief, Resident Evil Revelations
February: Girl's RPG, NewLovePlus, Theatrhythm, Tekken
March: Hatsune Miku, Metal Gear Solid 3, Kid Icarus Uprising

What does the Vita have to match this?

From what I can tell it's got a steady stream of games for the next 6 months and Sony says they have games planned out into 2013

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-12-20-sony-vita-software-schedule-planned-out-up-to-2013

As for specific games I'm not sure too many TBA's and 2012s

So many people expecting 70k for Vita's second week AKA the biggest week of the year in terms of sales?

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Maybe the consumers learned from what happened to the 3DS and are forcing a price cut on Vita.
