Forums - Nintendo - Why I'm sure the Wii U will release at $250 to $300

No sane person has been assuming a $600 price tag for Wii U. The ones I have seen said that have said it jokingly.

$300 minimum, $350 max.

I think Wii U price will be around 300-400.
Nintendo will drop the price when PS4 and 720 launching.

It will be priced in the $400 to $450 dollar range. This wouldn't be totally uncharacteristic for Nintendo either if you look at their previous console release (adjusted for inflation).

Adjusted for inflation for comparison with today's market Nintendo's console launch prices in the USA were:
NES (1985) - $242 *($99)
SNES (1991) - $396 *($199)
N64 (1996) - $333 *($199)
NGC (2001) - $281 *($199)
Wii (2006) - $296 *($249)

As you can see from the case of the SNES, Nintendo has launched a successful, market-leading console at, essentially, a $400 price point. By contrast the NGC launched at a full €100 lower than the Xbox and PlayStation 2, which launched at $299 each, but finished in last place. It's not price, but perceived value for money that drives buyers to purchase a product in my opinion. Therefore I think Nintendo could launch their console at $450, providing they had a good launch line-up of quality games.

*Original USA launch prices.
** Long term USA inflation figure of 3.5% used for calculations.

Nintendo aren't going to launch at $400 and they sure as hell aren't launching at $450,

I'm personally hoping for $400 since I don't like when consoles are too cheap at launch. I like to watch how they target different market segments with price drops, seeing sales spikes from price drops, analyzing the effects and so on.

I also think the next Xbox will cost $400 in Nov 2013.

I'm on the 300-400$ range too... And I think that nintendo Will try the Marketing strategy with the 3DS... that was lunch overpriced the consola for later when announced the competence's product price take a price cut on its product... The 3DS price cut I think it wasn´t because the bad sells it was to take the focus on the competence and create some kind of anxiety on the consumers , like "WOW! the 3DS is Cheaper as a DS let's buy one NOW!"...

I think 349$ with a game in bundle should be a fair price.

The 3ds was more powerful than the psp, but not by too much. that sentence makes no sense at all. So they say its more expensive and you say they will price it for the same or 50 bucks more?? Makes no sense. Reggie said it wasnt going to be cheap. 3DS was 100 dollars more expensive, so WiiU will be 350?? Iwata I think?? THe guy who is actually making the damn thing said it wouldnt be cheap and they just added multi tablet function which would make it more expensive.

What?

It'll be $300 - $400 for the launch price, so Nintendo really needs to deliver on games.

Anyway i don't know of anyone who has actually predicted a $600 launch price...

Why not? As I showed in my earlier post they launched the SNES at the 1991 equivalent of a $400 price point.
