Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
I remember saying that the 3DS struggling at $250 was not a particularly good sign for the PS-Vita and many people "defended" the PS-Vita talking about how great of a value it was ...
I think the lesson of the DS and 3DS is that individuals value a portable gaming system at somewhere between $150 and $200 regardless of the features and components of the system; after all, the initial price of the 3DS could (partially) be justified based on what people were willing to spend on a DS-Lite when the 3DS launched and yet people were unwilling to pay that much for it.
On top of this, I have noticed that the market for electronic gadgets has become a lot more competitive at the $200 to $300 range since the 3DS launched. Fancy ebook-readers/7-inch tablets are starting at the $200 range and there are (often) 10 inch tablets that are now $300, and there is a greater number of smart-phones that are showing up in this low price range with/without a contract. While I think that tablets are in their infancy, and have a long way to go before they're practical, I think a lot of parents may be more willing to spend $200 on a Kindle than $250 on a PS-Vita if they're given a choice.
With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if the PS-Vita does better at $250 than the 3DS did; but I think that price-point has been demonstrated to be not particularly good for a portable system and the market has shifted to make it much less attractive in the past few months.

I don't think full game download is going to be as big as you'd think until the memory cards get cheaper. How big are the games? 2-4 GB? It's going to fill up the memory card very fast. |
They are mostly around 1-1.5GB. Uncharted is 2.7GB and Blazblue is 3.2. They shouldn't be that big of a problem. An 16GB card should be enough, I think.
People the future of Vita will not be determined two weeks into its existence.

Vita has some launch issues which need to be and will be patch and the memory cards are sold out so both those are probably hurting initial sales. I remember reading the 2 day sales were good but not sold out but the fact that stores don't restock an item more then once a week usually means that it doesn't really matter, as long as the sales don't nose dive like the 3dses did it should be fine and I see no reason why they would.

Sony isn't marketing the Vita towards children. They said right now their focus will male, early 20s.
At $250 marketing to kids wouldn't be very effective anyway....

Yeah these 3DS doom and gloom articles and topics were being written AFTER the 3DS was performing very poorly.
The Vita JUST launched less than 2 weeks ago. Its way too early for this bull.
Vita should've been a world wide release. I might have bought one here in Canada.

If I didn't know any better I would have said "Welcome to VGchartz"...but sadly you and I seem to be the few sane ones.

I agree that right now the 3ds is just a better value than the PSV , The big games arent there yet, but I doubt it will stay like this for long.
