So Kasz216 a question in this case for what you believe and what you stand for. Can you honestly say that this guy deserves a 75 years prison sentence?

I'm going to guess your either not from the US are almost completely ignorant about the US legal system.

Nearly every crime in the US Legal system has an extreme end of the spectrum reserved for cases that are particularly malicious.

So to assume he'd get the maxium which is usually only reserved for egregious repeat offenders or other super harsh circumstances is ridiculious.

Even more ridiculious is to assume that the counts would run consecutivly vs concurrently.

Concurrent sentences are FAR more common.   Espiecally in cases where it's multiple counts within the same crime.  In fact I can't find anything under Illnois sentencing laws that would allow for him to have consecutive sentences.

Hence the "he might face 75 years in jail" tagline isn't realistic it's really in general complete BS made up to sell a news story by giving it a good hook.

General rule of thumb?  The News, ESPIECALLY local news exagerates and stretches the shit out everything to make it sound worse then it is... because nobody watches the news unless you give them a good reason.  It's also why things like sexting, and Jelly bracelts for sex are GREATLY exaggerated.

In truth, if the case wasn't thrown out, he was probably looking at 2 years maxium, which is about what you would get for committing the same crime vs a regular person.

I will answer for him. He always is for this type of treatment or actions. He goes on to act like two years of someone's life is nothing for video taping. It is totally clear your morals are f'ed up. Sorry Kasz216 but you should have been born in germany many years ago. Peace be with you. Hopefully i don't get band but you seem to agree with a police state and all sorts of f'ed up stuff.

this type of view reminds me of old white bigots. I'm white so no need tell me I already now. Those type of people are a embarrassment to everyone.

THIS times a million

lol seriously, i read this whole thread and i just dont understand why this kasz character is so down on freedom in favor of kind of police state. lol. some values. whenever i see that stupid avatar around here, thats exactly what im going to think too. lol

How is it a police state when that's the law for taping anybody?

I mean, you keep seeming to forget that this is already a law.

The difference is, for the Police the backend of the sentence is extended because there can be more sensitive stuff learned, AND there is an exception that allows you to tape the police.

Without this law, it would be MORE strict, not less.  There wouldn't be an anti-abuse statute.

The largest point here is that you keep ignoring my actual point.  Which is...

"I'm not a fan of the law, but people saying this is leading to a police state are insane and buying into a greatly overhyped story for ratings because concurrent sentencing is mandatory in such cases, the maxiums are pretty much never given out, and what the guy was arrested for is something he would of been arrested for whether the people he taped were cops, jehovah's witnesses or random neighbors with a punishment that likely would of been the same." (Although again in this case there will be no punishment as the case has been thrown out.)

So, it isn't a case of Kaz trying to contradict every single thread I start?  I was beginning to think it was thatm, rather than support for things that lead a nation down a road to a police state.

I don't agree with Kasz, hardly ever, and have been arrested completely wrongly, by a cop excited to find some reason to arrest me, and that was extremely irritating, since I didn't do anything... I ended up with no penalty but thats besides the point.

If I'm not mistaken his whole point, is that Police have the same/less rights as everybody else. Which should be the case, because as much as I don't like certain police officers, there are plenty of good police officers that shouldn't have their lives ruined by the media sensationalizing (which they always do) certain events.

75 years isn't going to happen, and there is a high chance that this case will get thrown out. (if this happens then everything here is overblown, but shows the inefficiency's of our countries system). But, it's likely the media sensationalizing the story to get more attention.

In essence there is a reason for the law, but, perhaps the spirit of the law is being broken. Unfortunately, people, not just police officers always try to break the spirit of things for their own means.

Exactly.  I don't even agree with the law.  I just understand why it exists and realize why it's not "OMG we're barreling towards a police state."

Really something like what Mummelman mentioned is a law that makes a lot more sense.

Also, not only is there a high chance the case will get thrown out... it already has been thrown out.
