Newt Gingrich says he'd defy Supreme Court rulings he opposed

Newt Gingrich says as president he would ignore Supreme Court decisions that conflicted with his powers as commander in chief, and he would press for impeaching judges or even abolishing certain courts if he disagreed with their rulings.

"I'm fed up with elitist judges" who seek to impose their "radically un-American" views, Gingrich said Saturday in a conference call with reporters.

In recent weeks, the Republican presidential contender has been telling conservative audiences he is determined to expose the myth of "judicial supremacy" and restrain judges to a more limited role in American government. "The courts have become grotesquely dictatorial and far too powerful," he said in Thursday's Iowa debate.

He wouldn't be the first to do so, and refusing to enforce judicial rulings is one way to do an end-run on rulings of the judiciary, though it is usually done with more subtlety and less vocally

Andrew Jackson did it so that he could continue to genocide the Native Americans, and yet we seem to remember him fondly.

there was a president on the north american continent who thought he could get away with things like that not too long ago....it didnt go well for him.

And this is why the Republican party is dying.

I give the current-looking GOP 15 years tops before they either have a schism resulting in another party, or an internal revolution which kicks out the establishment (which is unlikely).

Quite frankly, I know few people willing to vote for Gingrich or another man of his stock (e.g. Romney).

He is trying to run for King, not President.

Well, he is a Republican. Hereditary Rule encourages strong family values.
