The Vita looks like a fine system, but there is something that the 3DS can have that it can't. Huge franchises.

Oh really? Just look at what's announced :P
Call of duty, Assassins creed, Uncharted, Killzone, Bioshock, LittleBigPlanet and FIFA just to name a few.

I really think sony learnt their lesson with the PSP, and plenty of 3rd parties are signed up (just look at the list of announcments), it will be very well supported.

The DS had Call of Duty, but it didn't do well. When the games are available on the HD consoles, PC, and even the Wii with some adjustments, I can't imagine CoD making huge numbers on a handheld. Assassin's Creed already appeared on the DS and PSP, but only had moderate sales. Killzone on the PSP never reached a million units. Uncharted is a big franchise, but not huge per se. Bioshock is an unknown quantity on handhelds, LittleBigPlanet is another moderate series, as are handheld versions of Fifa.

I'm not trying to diss the Vita here. There are plenty of big games coming out for it. But systems like the DS, PS2, 360, and Wii are defined by games that sell something along the lines of 10 million or more units or at least to 10% of console owners. The Vita will have many worthwhile titles, but I don't see any of those as big hits that can singlehandedly carry the system.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Uncharted is a franchise best suited for handhelds, and Golden Abyss will become the best selling Action game of all time. Stranger things have happened. But from where I stand, I see the Vita as a system without a few key titles that will sell it to millions, like Mario Kart seems to be doing for the 3DS.

Yeah I guess you're right, mostly; I think Call of Duty will sell really well on vita, because it will play and look a lot like the console versions, and if that's emphasized in advertisements, I think it'll easily sell multiple millions. The reason why Call of duty didn't do well on DS is because the game wasn't that great, it played nothing like the console versions and it's target audience generally do not own DSs (hardcore gamers and bros). But the VITA is definitely targeted at the hardcore, and a console-like portable cod will definitely attract some bros.

Uncharted will probably sell very well, same for FIFA, Assassins creed and quite a few others, but you're right, nothing will sell like those Nintendo 3DS titles.(Could maybe get close though).

Time will tell.

PSP succeeded in getting "console-like" in its own case, but that did not help. It needs unique games and not "console junior" games. Take the "Stories" games on PSP for instance: they were unique expansions on the hit series and did decently well, but games that were clearly just junior partners of their console counterparts did poorly.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Vita is the one that attracts me the most, but I am pretty sure 3DS will sell much more.

Every time everyone is like Uncharted isnt such a huge franchise, but then they say FF is.

Truth is, as of today, Uncharted 2 outsold FF13 by more than half a million units (PS3), Uncharted 3 is looking to do even more than that, in fact, Sony shipped 3,8 Million units day one thats less than a million than FF13 currently stands at and Uncharted 3 is already sold out in many places (for example in many stores in UK).

The Uncharted series will be at about 15 Million units shipped by the time the Vita launches, I think Golden Abyss can be a big systemseller and go on to sell 3 Million plus (without bundles) which is huge for a launch title.

Maybe Final Fantasy isn't the best thing to strive for anymore. Ever since the PS2's life, the series has gone downhill a bit, both in terms of critical sucess and sales. Uncharted 3 may have sold FF13 on the PS3, but so have a bunch of other games. Donkey Kong Country Returns outsold both games, but it was no system seller for the Wii.

My point is, FF and Uncharted are both big franchises, but are not the God Tier that Pokemon, Mario, and Halo are. And I believe, possibly incorrectly, that leading consoles need at least one God Tier franchise to top a market.

That said, Uncharted will probably do well, and seems to deserve it.

My bet would be with the 3DS, Simply because it will have the stronger game library.

In early poll counts the 3DS seems to be on top, but we will have to wait for what happens in Florida before we know for sure who will win.

Sorry, American Humor.

Lol...... I'm from Florida so........ The vote has been decided! ;)

Your current point total is at 360... Are you a microsoft spy here to gleen information about the Vita and 3DS to make you own super handheld with Kinect support?

Currently Online
360

 I'm not allowed to say............

Jk, of course I'm not. ;) I'm a Nintendo Fan Boy. And I will change my points as soon as I can... They have changed!

Theres still Gran Turismo which is a Top Tier franchise in Europe, they will have a Call Of Duty and most likely a GTA which are Top Tier franchises especially in America and then you only need a Monster Hunter for the PSV and there you have a Top Tier franchise for Japan (yeah I know 3DS has monster hunter, too, but im pretty confident that a MH on the Vita will sell more that 2 times of what the 3DS version sells at least).

And to compare donkey kong country returns to Uncharted 2 (you wrote UC3, but I think you made a mistake) isnt very logical IMO, Donkey Kong Country Returns launched on a much larger userbase and it wasnt critically acclaimed as UC2. Also it launched late in the lifespan of the Wii.

And then you have Golden Abyss which is an AAA title ready for launch of the PSV, im sure it will move many Vitas, I know I will be getting one for Golden Abyss only (okay some other launch titles look interesting as well, but i love the uncharted series) so it already sold one system ;)

Is there really any argument anymore? Has anyone seen the poll voting? There are over a 100 votes 3DS to under 50 vita.

105 to 43 now! Geez, happy to see people have faith in the 3DS! :D

I really wish the vita all the best and I would give it a slight chance to outsell the 3DS in the future if there wouldn't be one thing: POKEMON ;)

3DS is kicking ass and taking names. Vita ain't got nothing on 3DS. I think people are going to see that the 3DS launch was much better than the Vita launch. Five 3DS games entered the top ten, while Vita only has four titles within the top 20, in which only one title entered the top ten.

I love my 3ds and I am pretty sure it will sell more than vita, which is no a bad thing though, but I hope vita sells very well, I am going to wait probably after e3 to see what games are coming and everything before buying one though. I hope both to sell very well, the most games we get the better...
