Forums - Gaming - Skyrim wins 2011 VGA GOTY award and over a dozen more.

What should have won GOTY?

Skyrim 134 41.74%

Uncharted 3 83 25.86%

Batman Arkham City 22 6.85%

Portal 2 14 4.36%

Skyward Sword 67 20.87%

Total:320

According to the media its either fixed camera, closed corridors and pre rendered cut scenes that are the only ones worthy of best graphical award nowadays.

This was expected, considering all the buzz and praise it received. Can't wait to play it myself in a few weeks! Hopefully the bigger bugs will be cleared out by then.

Smh...

Skyrim deserves GoTY just like the other ones but this is a question I have. How do we show a developer that it's not acceptable to release a game in this state? You get high Tier reviews across the board, extremely high sales for a rpg (that is exciting in and of itself), and game of the year. If they release there next game in working order I would be wrong but what incentive do they have.

On a side note Dark Souls should've been on the list as well imo. Rpg's really showed they kick ass this year. What do you guys think had the least likely chance of winning. I'm going with Portal 2 not because it's a bad game but because in face of the end year releases I believe it went under the radar.

... then I took an arrow in the knee

I used to make jokes about taking an arrow to the knee, but then I really did take an arrow to the knee, thereby preventing me from telling jokes about taking an arrow to the knee, so I then proceeded to tell jokes about the arrow to the knee which prevented me from telling jokes about the original arrow to my knee, but most unfortunately, I later took an arrow to the knee, rendering me incapable of telling this joke. Then, to deepen my confusion, I took an arrow to the knee...

Haha thats true, those are the games that come across as the most visually striking since its so easy when you are in full control over the player. Common sense really.

TBH my view is Bethesda should definately not have been given developer of the year for the state the game released in.  I can understand still going ahead and giving it the GOTY award but the media shouldn't be specifically rewarding the developer when they need (given the funds/time available to them) to focus on releasing better tested products.  Too often their games have serious low level coding flaws which is just not on.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

U can tell it's gonna go for Skyrim, so no need to comment, Congratulation Bethesda

This glitch issue is blown out of proportion. I have over 100 hours and no major issues with Skyrim on PS3. And those who got the stutter and low FPS due to the memory leak it got patched away quite quickly.

Anyway, let's be honest, Skyrim is not as good as Oblivion, but there were no doubts about who would win GOTY.
