I've seen many WWII threads on here so i decided to make my own. How come Americans and British always ignore Soviet's role in ww2?

after all they fought 80% of the whole German army, they also lost more men than any other nation.  Majority of the German troops died in the East. I am fully aware about Stalin and his crimes against his own people, but you have to realize that most of the Russians weren't fighting the Nazis for Stalin! they fought the enemy to defend their homeland. The war in the East was much different than the West, Hitler viewed Russians as "Sub-Humans" he did not see any value in them. In fact he ordered all his generals to treat them harshly. That's a big mistake in my opinion, if Hitler was smart he would have treated the civilians really well so that way all the Russians would fight the Communist government.

I've notcied that many people from the West have little knowledge about the East, every time i ask them about the Soviets their response is always the same "They raped million of german women in berlin" or "they defeated the germans because of the weather".   I find them very ignorant. They have no idea how the Nazis treated the Soviet population. For every 1 dead german killed by the russian partisans, 100 russian civilians would be shot, and for every 1 wounded german  50 russians would be shot.  im talking about the occupied parts were the Partisans fought the Nazis. the death toll in soviet union by the end of ww2 was 28million there were hardly any russian family who did not lose a relative. And all i hear is how the soviets comitted crimes in Berlin.

In the U.S., we kind of fought a Cold War with Russia for 40 years, so we grew up to a history where the turning point of the War was D-Day rather than Stalingrad. You have to go out of your way to learn about how the Soviets could have won the war by themselves if necessary.

That's true, and it's laughable because D-day was a piece of cake compared to the battles in the east. there were 10k german troops in normandy against 175k Allied troops.  I have a lot of respect for those who died in Normandy but i hate it when nobody pays any respect for those who died in Stalingrad. Stalingrad was the deadliest battle in history over 1 million russians died and close to 800k Axis powers - Romanians, Hungarians, Italians and Germans

Yeah, when you start mentioning numbers like those, people in America are honestly surprised. Most of the misconceptions are a negative side effect of politics, not willful ignorance.

Yes, german and soviet soldiers fought a disgusting fight - on both sides. No card games or shared christmas in the trenchs during lull in the fighting like in WWI.

Without the support by USA with material, Stalin would have had lost the fight. Because Hitler attackt Soviets before Soviets were ready to attack not only Germany but whole Europ.

UK wanted to destroy Germany, because of its rising economical power since 1900.
Thats the reason Churchill let become a limited conflict between Germany and Poland to becoming a WW.
Hilter never wanted to attack France or Britain or USA.
There were two rising powers and Churchill (only the balance of power and destruction of Germany in his mind) knew that he has to support the weaker of both ones - the Soviet Union. No matter what does it mean in the long run.

Churchill is most over - and misrated person in western history.

Er... Maybe because some of these argument are right? The red army was the greatest blight to walk over the Earth since Gengis Khan. They raped and displaced millions, annexed whole countries into the hell they called a communist nation and no, no fucking nazi plan about exterminating the whole slav people or some crap along these lines give any justification for what they done.

Frankly, the USA and the west could have beaten the reich in their own should the URSS have lost, like they later did in the pacific. Just imagine if America had waited to attack Japan alongside the soviets. At best we would have a east-west german split in the region, at worst a twin Korea at the seas. Such is the legacy of the authoritarian rule who claimed to have something from the ideas of Marx when it did not remotely came close to what socialism ans communism stood for.

Soviets don't deserve any respect? do you have any idea that if it wasn't for the Soviets the Nazis would have won the war.  Do you even know why Hitler chose to attack Soviet Union? it was part of the "Lebenstraum" plan to conquer the East and enslave all the Slavic people(Russians,Poles,Ukranians).  That's the reason why many russian civilians fought the German occupiers even though their own government was evil.  Yes the allies did send supplies to the Russians but it wasn;t enough it did help a little but it wasn;t that much. In fact the allies promised Stalin that they would open a second front in 1942 but they never did, then they promised that  they will open a second fron in 1943 yet again they lied.  They wanted the Soviets to completly destroy the Wehrmacht so by 1944 they would come and easily take over the western europe.  If teh Russians surrendered in 1941 then AMERICANS AND BRITISH WOULD OF BEEN IN A BIG TROUBLE!  so you should be thanking the Russian people for fighting and not surrendering. YOU  IGNORANT FOOL.

Listen you ignorant devil,  In Belarussia 1/3 of the population was slaughtered by the Nazi SS Einzatsgruppen. I am not defending the Soviet's actions against innocent people. I simply asking the west to give credit to the Russian people who fought the Nazi invaders.  Do you have any idea how strong the Wehrmacht was in 1941 - 1943?   the americans should thank the Russians for defeating the Nazis not the other way around. You are a ignorant fool.

Plus, it's easier to always blame the Germans for everything. They are the devil, the culprits of everything. Well, until the Soviets appeared, and then it was the Muslims. Hope you see the trend.
