Maybe it already reached.
Nobody know real numbers for 100%. But by the and of januray, there will be some official statements from sony, nintendo, M$. Then we will have some numbers.

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

I think there is a possibility but i'm not going to get my hopes up! If it doesn't this week then it will next week. Question is, when will the PS3 be in the double figures (10M) as i think thats more of a milestone than 9M :D

Yes, I am using vgchartz.com numbers. Is there a problem with that? I know there not 100% exact but there pretty close.

Also where did you get those 9.2-9.5 million numbers? I hope your right since I support Sony, but I think thats a little high.

Thats definately a greater Milestone! :)

I say in 4-5 weeks time (depending on how hopeful you are).

This week - 8.95-9.1 mil

Next Week - 9.2-9.4mil

3rd Week - 9.45-9.7 mil

4th Week - 9.7-10 mil

Dude you expect the ps3 to average out 200-300k weekly sales? Good luck with that.

It would be nice for the PS3 to manage that milestone in that time but i don't think it will... I might be wrong but as Leo-j stated, the PS3 would have to manage almost 300k sales per week and for Jan-Feb this is very difficult.

Here's hoping it manages it though :D

I know NPD hasnt released data yet .But NPD had the PS3 at 2.5 million end november in US alone ,so lets say some 2.8 million in NA .Then Sony says to have sold 1.2 million in US in december .Lets substract some 200K of the last week of november and some 100K due to this being shipped numbers ,lets add the Canada numbers and you have some 3.9 million consoles in NA alone .Add to that 1.7 million for Japan and 3.7 million for Europe and Pal markets and you have a pretty 9.3 million number for 1st january .At the lowest 9.1 million .
