Will the PSPs sales be enough to warrant a PSP2?

30m is a lot of PSPs and I believe it will sell another 20-30m in its lifetime easily. But with the success of the DS and the dominance of Nintendo in the handheld market would Sony believe they could release another competitive handheld?

IMO I think they could easily release another handheld that would be profitable enough to be called a success.

They need touch screens, motion contorls, built in HDD and PS2 level graphics.

And dual joysticks lol.

That would be an amazing handheld device. And I think it would sell better than the PSP.

Hardware sales certainly are encouraging for producing another system, but software sales should bring a lot of caution to both Sony and Third Parties about rushing into it; on top of that the real question is what could Sony provide as a strength for the platform over the Nintendo DS (and Nintendo's eventual follow-up) that the PSP doesn't currently have ...

Umm yes i think 30 million is enough considering its sold more than Gamecube and X box original and they both got sequels.

On the PSP2 I would like:

- Second Joystick for FPS games
- Bigger Memory Stick or a built in Hard Drive (its up to Sony)
- Better Graphics (not that they're bad now)
- Better Games, theres some good ones now but not a ton
- I don't know how this all works, but make it harder to hack so it actually sells software

I'll come up with more ideas later.

If the next one has better games, then it will sell more systems and take away from Nintendo's market. And for Crap sakes Sony, stop piracy!! I am sick of the weak ass software sales for PSP.

I think the more important question is "Will software sales of the PSP be enough to warrant publishers to take a strong focus on the PSP2?"

I do think there will be a PSP 2 but i think Sony, as said previously, need to work on the software aspects of the console! Having the games on Flash memory could also be a good option as the load times with the UMD were a bit too long for what a handheld should be...

Touch-screens would be interesting but i don't think Sony would go down that route as they would basically be copying the DS...

All we need to do is wait and see if something is announced! I do like the idea of dual joysticks for FPS games though :D

Yes, although the most important thing is what totalwar said

i think the original psp is powerful enough to last at least more than one generation. i mean if it has the cpu power of a ps2, how much more power do you need for a handheld? it would be pointless to make it more powerful as it would make developing handheld games too difficult, which they shouldnt be.

I think the next PSP 2 should follow suit with thier first one and be a jack of all trades type thing, but with a much higher ram ammount, a new look of course :P OLED screen and a massive battery life :3, with GPS, Skype, and things like a built in 8g chip or something, with the gate open for more, I would be impressed :P

As for software sales... *cough cough* 20 DOLLAR GAMES MUTHER F*CKERS >< IT'S A HANDHELD FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!
