Forums - Nintendo - 3DS Overtakes 2 consoles.

If my maths is correct, and if am reading the hardware tables correctly, with the nearly 1 million in sales week ending 26th November the 3DS has now overtaken the Sega Dreamcast and Sega Saturn for total worldwiden sales. Obviously the 3DS was going to overtake them before Xmas but due to the pretty poor sales earlier this year I hadn't expected it to happen so soon.

I'm pretty sure the Dreamcast sold over a million units....

It must have...now I need to check. :x

I think you mis-read my post a little. Of course the Dreamcast sold over 1 million. I am talking total worldwide sales, which the VG chart has at 8.2 million for the Dreamcast. The 3DS should be around 8.8 million when the charts are updated.

Well what are the 3DS worldwide sales? I know the Dreamcast did not do that well, but I thought it did better than... what? 10 million 3DS sales. Is that about right?

This site has Dreamcast sales listed at 8.2 million. 3DS should be around 8.8 million when its updated soon.

I'm not sure why passing two failed consoles which almost bankrupted Sega is an accomplishment, but there's no question that the 3DS's sales are picking up fast. In that respect, Nintendo should have a great 2012.

I'm not sure where in my post I stated this was an accomplishment? And even using your line of reasoning is this dissapointing on the 3DS's part to have done more sales worldwide in 8 months than these consoles did in years? I was merely pointing out a fact, I wasn't saying it was an accomplishment.

Oh noes. Sega is d0med.

and many more systems will be overtaken by 3DS, not a failure as people were thinking then.

The 3DS is the successor to the highest selling console ever by the most successful company in the industry.

Also, if you didn't consider this an accomplishment, why make a thread about it at all? It would be like making a thread about the 3DS passing the Neo Geo or the Game Gear. It's going to pass a dozen of other consoles at some point too. The Saturn and the Dreamcast aren't even handhelds.

Oh well.

Dreamcast is at 10.2M and Saturn 9.5M according to Wikipedia though..
