Forums - Sony - Sony wants Flash on Vita!

Sony software-development head Munechika Nishida recently stated that Sony is pursuing Flash compatibility in their new Vita console. Even though Adobe announced it is going to stop its mobile Flash development Sony isn't about to give up. Sony is negotiating with Adobe to ensure Flash is present on Vita shortly.

Having Flash support would be a major asset to Vita, currently many portable devices are losing Flash and it Adobe is going to drop the product from mobile devices. RIM already announced they will continue upgrading Flash and offering their own Flash service while other phones and tablet manufacturers are dropping Flash in future models due to Adobe's dropping of the product.

Is this a wise move by Sony? Could Flash compatibility be a major selling feature for Vita at a time when other portable devices are losing Flash? Is it worth while for Sony to continue to pursue Flash or should they follow Apple and other competitors in letting it die?

Flash needs to die a quick painful death. I will always hate Sony for trying to prolong it's life

Flash on Vita = Facebook + Zynga Games.

I think this has potential to attract more customers than every single Vita (and 3DS) game announced so far.

People don't buy dedicated handhelds to play games that are already available on devices they own.

Actually there is a expection to this rule, a lot Japanese PS2 owners bought a PSP to play the Monter Hunter games that where already avaliable in the devices they owned. I think Zynga Games can be a another exeption, but that is just my opinion. =)

Hooray?

I read this because I think this is the shortest post you've ever had on this site.

But anyway, iOS is taking over the world and they don't do flash, so I don't see how its ever going to survive even if Sony and RIM keep on trying.

Pretty much my exact thought.

Heard about this, but this is kind of a step back for Sony, why would they continue support of a dead format, something tells me that when they first started design on the vita, they couldnt go back and apply changes for html5 or something. So they sticked with flash.

vita has support for html5
