Forums - PC - So I bought the GTA pack in the Steam sale...

I never owned any of the GTA games growing up, as my parents didn't want me owning 18-rated games when I was 13-odd (I don't know the exact age, but whatever). I was 18 by the time 4 came out, but wasn't hyped about it, because I never really played the previous games.

However, I knew the games weren't shit, and I saw 'em for a fiver on the Steam sale, thought I might aswell go for it. All I've played so far is GTA III, and IV. III has aged terribly. But my main beef is with GTA IV PC.

1 - Driving with both the keyboard and mouse isn't intuitive. Why can't the camera be in a fixed position like it was in GTA III? Is there any way to do this in the settings (I can't find anything).

2 (and most importantly) - I bought this game on Steam. Why do I need Games For Windows Live to play it? Also, I need to sign up and login for some Social Club to play online. Basically, to play this game I need to be signed into 3 services. I'm never going to play it online, but I still need to be signed into steam to play the game, and signed into GfWL to save it (which it didn't tell me about until the first time I wanted to save the game - and because I didn't have the GfW client, I had to exit out, and play the first couple of missions again). This all just seems like overkill, especially because if I were to pirate this game, I wouldn't have any of these hassles.

I suppose earning achievements for my live account is a bonus, but I couldn't give a rats arse about my gamerscore.

Did you get Vice City? If you did and for some reason skipped it shame on you :(

Also I feel that while keyboard and mouse is ideal for FPS, the GTA games are intended to be played with a controller. Control wise on the consoles each game got better and more intuitive. Can you buy a 360 controller to play it on Steam? Is that possible? I don't play on PC much ha.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

I have got Vice City, and San Andreas.

The GTA pack, for a fiver, was every single GTA game excluding the expansions to IV. Fantastic bargain, escpecially when you consider how much time you can get out of any one of the modern games.

Yeah, itdoes support 360 controllers. However, I only has a wireless controller, which means I need to buy an adapter, or a wired controller. I ain't buying either.

I feel like the GTA games, particularly VIce City and San Andreas, were meant to be played on a gamepad.

That being said, San Andreas is an incredibly fun game and I hope you get the experience of exploring its crazy world.

You can also use your PS3 controller (either with the USB cable or with bluetooth) if you get the MotionInJoy driver and emulate the 360 controller. That's what I use. But yes, having to join GfWL is retarded.

Currently playing: Gran Turismo 5
Just finished:

Yeah, I know. But all the games for a fiver was just too much of a deal to skip, If I could have downloaded them all from Xbox Live for the same price, I would have.

Hmmm, I used to do this before. However, after my PS3 YLoD, I gave all my games and controllers to my brother (interestingly, he's been able to play 18s since he was 11-12... funny how your parents get more liberal with each additional child), and now I'm at Uni. I'll be going back home in a couple of weeks, so I'll just yoink a controller back.

San Andreas alone is worth at least a fiver - brilliant game

I haven't played Vice City (best in the series) in ages, but I did try to play III a couple years back and just couldn't. As you said it aged terribly.
