Forums - Sony - A sensible opinion from IGN regarding Vita memory card prices.

I'm still annoyed by everyone freaking out. Does anyone remember when Memory stick pro duo came out? The prices were MUCH higher.

That was also many years ago, when flash memory was still a lot newer. As it stands right now, you can get high-speed 32GB SD cards for $45-$50 and high-speed 64GB for the same price as this new flash memory at 32GB.

It should be obvious to everyone that SD is the far superior format for storage.  To offer the consumer a worse option for storage isn't that smart.

wait for 3rd suppliers prices

Well, SD doesn't offer the exceptionally high-speed performance that some people want from flash memory - the thing is, you don't need performance faster than SD offers for gaming. The transfer speeds are more than good enough.

Why would one need higher transfer speed than a SD card for a handheld?  I understand some saves and shit go on the SD card from the 3DS but I barely wait for anything to save or upload on it (got a 32 gb for under 40).  Same with the Wii even though VC/WW games aren't big they load up pretty damn quick from the SD channel.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. The only applications I can understand needing higher transfer rates are for high-end digital cameras and camcorders. In a gaming system - even one that you can anticipate having large games - that's just unnecessary.

So now selling expensive memory cards means your asking to get hacked?
Great logic.

Sooo, the so-called "cheap" $249 pricing for a Wifi Vita was done in the hopes that they'll be able to recoup some of the moneh from expensive peripherals? Oh god you just dashed my hopes of having one.

Curiously, SON¥ had stated it would take the PSVita 'bout three years to start making a profit. At this rate, it might take them even longer.

The 3ds has only been a moderate success, outselling an entire year of DS within the 3DS' first 8 months.

Lol IGN... lol

Anyways, about Vita, that memory situation SUCKS. I really hope they change their mind. =

Didn't it get no where near nintendo's projections? Or is that bs?
