Well its taken a little while but Nintendo appears to be realizing that co-op game play is becoming an essential piece of a games campaign. Starting earlier this generation when PS3/360 games started getting co-op default in almost every major game it has become apparent that gamers want to play alongside one another in campaign.

Nintendo was a tad slow to join the co-op revolution but with titles like SmashBros:Brawl, NSMBW, Kirby:EpicYarn, ReturnToDreamland and DKC:R among many other Nintendo titles receiving co-op the question has to be asked should co-op become default in most if not all Nintendo titles in the future? Miyamoto talked during NSMBW's development that he had always envisioned a co-op Mario game where Mario and Luigi interacted with one another.

Nintendo has always been a leader when it comes to multiplayer especially local multiplayer. The N64 was the first console I know of to come with 4 default controller ports. Nintendo always focused on titles like Mario kart, SmashBros, MarioParty among other great multiplayer titles.

With the last generation Nintendo fell behind on online, but with Nintendo's recent drive for co-op titles including the announcement that Luigi's Mansion will be 2 player likely co-op. It seems Nintendo might be headed towards adopting co-op permanently. Would you love to see the majority of Nintendo titles in the future adopt co-op whether it be local co-op (Wii,WiiU) or online co-op (WiiU,3DS).

Do you think a drive towards co-op from Nintendo could help redeem them as a leader in multiplayer experiences yet again?

Think about it a co-op StarFox title where your squadron is all played by friends and you must communicate with each other over com as you take out waves fo enemies. Playing Pokemon and using your friend or friends to access certain areas or complete puzzles.  Maybe some co-op strategic action in Advance Wars 3D. Think about a co-op Pikmin 3 on WiiU wouldn't that be amazing? Co-Op 3D Mario sounds awesome almost every franchise in Nintendo's catalog could be easily upgraded with co-op game play. Any other ideas for awesome Nintendo co-op titles?

As long as single-player won't suffer i don't care.

Agreed. If they want to add stuff like co-op then let them, as long as the single player modes don't suffer. Ultimately it's a small but vocal minority that actually enjoys co-op anyway.

VGChartz

co-op is fun but not in all games.

I think it is a good idea in some games, but some games it is not. They are pretty much doing co-op in the right amount as of right now.

Anyone else think a co-op Zelda would be cool? One player could be link trying to beat the game and the other player could be Dark Link trying to stop you. I do not know how they would implement it, but it seemed like a good idea when I ~thunked~ it a minute ago!

I dunno Zelda was like the only game I thought wouldn't work well with co-op. I think if Nintendo was to make a multiplayer Zelda title that the best route would be an MMO. I know I would die for a World Of Warcraft, StarsWars:TheOldRepublic style Zelda title. Where you play as one of the clans Hylian, Goron ....etc....etc... and you go out on missions across Hyrule to save it from evil.

Honestly Zelda would be an amazing MMO or even RTS. The game would just fit these genre's perfectly it has the universe to support a very diverse and deep plot line and some of the best RPG elements of any franchise to date. Actually if anyone could kill WoW or SW:TOR it would be Zelda, nothing could hold Zelda down!

there are so many things Nintendo could try. Getting them to do it is the hard part!

Take pokemon for example. Alot of people want a 3D big console black and white type of game or even snap 2. will Nintendo do it?

The problem is Nintendo often allows their developers to do freely with their IP what they want. The company also encourages always offering new experiances with each title and very few titles from Nintendo are actually true sequels, even Galaxy 2 was entirely different gameplay with Yoshi.

GameFreak has stated several times that they don't want to do a big home console version of Pokemon. The reason being Pokemon was always meant to be a portable experiance. Pocket Monsters, the developers idea of what they wanted was for kids to go out battle and trade with friends give children and adults the oppertunity to socialize. The game was supposed to bring people together and out of the house. A true portable experiance. Bringing that to the home consoles would destroy the dream behind Pokemon.

GameFreak will likely never give the okay for a home Pokemon title like the handhelds. Nintendo might order one made by Genious Sonority and The Pokemon Company but they know they would be stepping on toes and upsetting GameFreak which is a very important developer to them.

So in the end Snap 2 is not that likely because Nintendo and Hal its developers do not like to make the same product twice. If one does get green lit expect something new, Nintendo to innovate it and change it. Yes MarioKart, SmashBros are basically the same every itteration but even Mario party has evolved anyone who plays Mario party on 64 then tries Mario party 8 will see drastic changes. In fact even Smash Bros and Mario Kart have been evolved and changed with each game.

In the end all we can do is hope, but at Nintendo the developers choose whats going to happen with the games. Sometimes the developers and the fans have different visions, but the developers if they work for Nintendo are talented and will continue to make great games even if they don't match exactly the direction we would like them to go in.
