What are the greatest television scenes you remember?

We all know those moments. The kind of moment when the nerdy kid in the family sitcom finally stands up to the bully, or our hero finally defeats the villain he has been chasing the entire season. They can be funny or sad, fictional or real-life, and sometimes they can be the scenes we least expect to be great. Often times, they are the reverse of jumping the shark: They are the moments when a show reaches its true potential and creates scenes that are not just memorable, but culturally significant.

I've picked two very different examples to illustrate the question:

Richard Simmons on Whose Line is it Anyway

Will's Dad from Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Two very different scenes, one comedic, the other sad. Both arguably the peaks of their respective shows.

So what are other great TV moments that you remember?

Note: Please bold the names of the show so that people avoid reading spoilers for shows they haven't seen.

Something from long ago, when the chopper crashed on MASH and killed off the goof guy doctor that was supposed to be going home...can't remember the characters name that died. I just remember how shocking it was and how real it seemed to how war really works.

Ahh, two great scenes. I'm especially fond of Seinfeld moments because the show produced so many funny episodes (of course, the Soup Nazi is my favorite, but the Marine Biologist is one of the classics).

The box-cutter scene from the first episode of Breaking Bad last season. The way Gus carried that scene without speaking a single word was pure magic. Everything from his demeanor to his deliberate movements were pure perfection. That one seen set the tone for the entire season and it will stick out in my mind for a long time.

Sorry, small request, but could future posters bold the name of the show so viewers can avoid spoilers?

But yeah, great scene.

Great post. Yeah, those are two fantastic episodes. I've always been very fond of Jurassic Bark, particularly the ending scene. Futurama pretty much picked up the helm from the Simpsons as far as I'm concerned.

I love the old Simpsons episode...

How many Tv shows can you have a blast and learn a good life lesson?

Homer want from being an average joe guy who made silly mistake into being mentally retarted.

well it's wasn't exactly a show, but when Kanye West Said "Bush does not care about black people" wasn't really great but shocking none the less

OT: when general Hughes died in full metal alchemist....that damn near broke my heart!!! :(

At the time, this was the best thing I'd ever seen on TV.

Ever.
