Forums - Nintendo - What games actually get you Club Nintendo Stars/Coins?

Does one get Club Nintendo stars (or for Americans, coins) for 3rd party games on Nintendo platforms?

I always thought the answer was no, with the expections being 3rd party games localised or marketed by Nintendo of Europe, such as Monster Hunter 3.  However, today my copy of Tales of the Abyss arrived and it came with a Club Nintendo stars strip.  The game was published by Namco-Bandai, not Nintendo.  Also, I can't find any information regarding NoE assisting localisation, publishing or marketing, so I'm assuming they didn't.  I've rarely recieved stars before for 3rd party games.  I'm not sure why this game came with them.

What is Nintendo's actual policy of what games come with stars?  I'm confused.

Not sure, I thought it was just for Nintendo systems and published games. I assume perhaps they might expand it for certain third party games. I assume there is no official rule regarding only 1st party games can earn coins.  I even tried to look further into the matter and was unable to locate anything in their faqs about 3rd party games.

Or for 3rd parties that actually make good games.  You would then have plenty of companies crying foul and favoritism that their piece of crap they tried to sell wasn't included.

All my 3DS game has the points... i tought that that was like a first here agreement to reward people a bit more.

All 3DS games get ClubNintendo-points.
All other games only get pointscards if mad by Nintendo or published.

That explains it then, thanks.

Looking through my list of registered games, SSFIV3D had one too, pretty much proving your point.  I bought Dead or Alive preowned, so the original owner must've registered it as I didn't get one with it.

As far as I know it is restricted almost entirely to first party. At least NOA is to my knowledge.

However maybe Nintendo signed a deal with Namco-Bandai to include points in exchange for something? Or maybe NOE is expanding it to all Nintendo exclusive software. I dunno really its an anomaly.

It won't go all third party because Nintendo would have to give so much free shit away. Unless Nintendo raises the prices on all their promotional items and such. But it doesn't make as much sense for Nintendo to promote third party software much, they make their money off their first party stuff more so then third party.

Of course WiiWare and VC games from third parties got me points so I really don't know for certain. I guess Nintendo picks and chooses who to recognize with points!

In Europe every 3DS game comes with a Nintendo club card which is worth 250 stars.

I was about to say my SSIV3D copy didn't have one then I saw the last comment.  USA doesn't have it for third parties but apparently Europe does for the 3DS.
