Forums - General Discussion - Best movie of the year!

This is all going to depend on what you consider a release in this year.

Children of Men and The Lives of Others, for example, both came out in 2006. There Will be Blood came out in 2008, and The Host in 2007.

But certainly, one could argue that its original release should be the standard.

No prob. Just claryfieing. The movie did have some impressive track shots and did a better job of portraying a futuristic dystopia than the dreadful ham handed V for Vendetta.

BTW Faxandu was a kick Ass NES game.

Yes it was. And I want it on VC and I want a new version for the Wii.

I actually enjoyed V for Vendetta as well, not as dystopia but as comic/ action.

I havent seen sky captain yet, but heard good things. Maybe that will be my movie of 2008 :)

Clearly, this is all going to depend on what standard you use for measurement on a film's release date. I hardly think it's worth arguing about, really.

I liked Children of Men a good deal too. It did seem to tilt a bit towards the maudlin at times, but rarely.

And I agree, it was a much more compelling dystopia than something like V for Vendetta.

I know but i have a lot of asian friends since I live in San Francisco. hence my hatred of The Departed which while I feel is great movie but aside from chaning the setting from Hong Kong to Boston was essentially taken shot for shot from Infernal Affairs with no credit given to the original with Scorsese going so far to call it experimental film making. If he would of credited the original film I would have respected his film. THis makes me fear the remake for The Host.
