Seriously it's getting ridiculous. When will they realize that we want the whole spectrum? Casual, core, casual-core, core-casual... They need to stop splitting the userbase and just make games for everybody.

I thought they already did.  When I buy most of the Mario games they say E for everybody on the front.  When I look at just some of the 3DS line up next year with Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion 2, Animal Crossing, etc I see game for everybody.  I know some might want to jump on me for saying Animal Crossing but I have played all the Animal Crossing games and I can tell you there are some very hardcore people actually let me restate that casuals that play the game hardcore that play the game.  I even know of a few dedicated sites that are probably still up and running.  http://www.animalcrossingcommunity.com/ being the main one which I am a member of.  I even donated 12 dollars to them back when I was playing AC:WW a lot.  Top donor donated $530 to the site.  I've met plenty of young, middle aged, and older people online that play AC 2-3 hours a day sometimes or more.   Anyways, I'll stop with my AC rant.

SethN there are tons of people who wouldn't touch LM2 with a 10-foot pole. It doesn't appeal to everybody. I understand that it's just one of many games, the collection of which appeals to everybody. Okay, even that would be acceptable. But your E argument doesn't work in that case, as I said for LM2.

If I want to be absolutely bullish about this, I would say rather that they need to work hard not only on making a library that appeals to everyone, but to find those individual games that also appeal to everyone, like certain classic disney movies (Lion King, Aladdin), or say Indiana Jones. Super Mario and Zelda on the Wii are the closest bet I've found to that. Granted, this point is much harder to achieve.

They need to flood their console with good content for everyone, like the PS3 did for its core audience, Nintendo needs to do that for its whole audience and its unreached audience as well. A huge feat, but they have the money.

I think you are both getting and missing the point.

Everyone points out the success of MW3's sales last week -- but no one mentions that it was not boght by approximately 85% of the user base. In other words, more than four out of five Xbox 360 and PS3 owners did not buy this game. That will change over time ... but given how FPS games tend to sell big and then not much, it won't change by much. (And yes, I am equating sales with user/install base which I realize is not quite correct but in this instance the difference only changes the math, not the point).

I personally wonder what some third parties are diong when they release games that would sell better on the Wii on the HD consoles instead.  Popcap sold very few Plants vs. Zombies on the 360 but it still appears to be releasing Bejewled 3 for Xbox 360 and PS3. That kind of thinking is not smart. (And since those games are on the DS, HD graphcis are not exactly needed for them).  Similarly, I doubt Sonic Generations will fare as well as it would have had it been on the Wii -- every previous Sonic game over multiple consoles this generation has done better on the Wii.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Wxcept you're going to need more than just 'in 3D' to entice those same people. Brain Age ect were fresh and new and got everyone excited, the same in 3D? not so much.

Well Nintendogs+cats is at 1.1mil, 1/6~1/7 of 3ds' userbase.  And thats kinda the same shit with 3d slapped on.

But lets not forget faceraiders/ARGames. Just because we don't see it on the charts doesn't mean its not having impact. In fact its probably accounting for most of 3ds' sales right now.

I really can't see them ever getting the Brain Age audience back.  I doubt a large portion of them will ever buy a dedicated handheld again.  Most of them probably own or intend to buy a smartphone instead.

What are these games that are being released for HDs that should have been on Wii?? I can give you Sonic Generations, but having played that game I can tell you, Wii would not have been able to handle it without some sacrifices, doenst meant that they couldnt port over the 3DS version, and its not like the SOnic games do terrible on HDs. SOnic 06 sucked and it still sold 2mil across two consoles. Bejeweled 3 is coming to PS360?? Nice that game is good.

You're wrong for the most part, 3rd parties DO not release games on HD that would do better on Wii. By that logic we would have seen a slew of dancing/minigame exercise games on HD, we dont. and vice versa. FPSs do better on HDs which is why we see little on WIi

Why? For continueing to cater to a market that helped them explode out of the rut they'd been in for two console generations and actually become a worldwide leader in the video game market? Or just making games you don't want?

Seriously, come on guys. This year you got Pilot Wings, Zelda OoT3D, Starfox 3D, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and Pokemon Black & White. Their casual selection this year? Nintendogs. And next year, your getting Luigi's Mansion 2, Kid Icarus, Mario Tennis, and Paper Mario. Your already getting what you want! (unless what you want is original franchise titles, in which case your fresh out of luck, lol).

Nintendo has long been catering to both the hardcore and casual crowd, especially in recent years, and while I certainly can't defend their dismal Wii line up for 2011, lets not forget that last year they gave Super Mario Galaxy 2, Sin and Punishment 2, Metroid Other M, and Donkey Kong Country returns. Nintendo has LONG been appealing to the "broad spectrum", and Reggie merely indicating that yes, they will continue to cater to the casual crowd that made them boat loads of cash doesn't change that.

Seriously people, come on. Don't act like Nintendo hasn't already been catering to you, and doesn't already have a line up of games for you next year, many of which I'm sure your excited for. I know plenty of people excited for Paper Mario, or who have been demanding a new Luigi's Mansion and Kid Icarus.

But Paper Mario, Zelda, Starfox, Super Mario, Pokemon? By gosh, where is Uncharted, where is Shadow of the Colossus. Certainly Sony is not the only one able to produce such content! Why is Prime not the Halo killer? Where is the marketing?

Why this is all important is because most of us believe Nintendo has the talent, they just aren't playing their cards right and need to improve brand prestige. How did Halo get so big and Prime get so small?

No offence but I don't think Nintendo wants franchises that perform as Sony's do. I mean sure Sony's franchises don't do all that bad but Nintendo wants 5+ million sellers. Also Nintendo as a company prides itself on releasing unique experiances and content and giving its developers freedom to develop stuff in a new way.

Nintendo would have a hard time if they contacted up one of their studios and said "Hey were going to pretend we are GameLoft for a year or so, pump out rip offs of all Sony's major franchises". It doesn't fit in with Nintendo's style, unfortunetly for all the Sony and MS fans Nintendo isn't about to create identical franchises in fact they aren't likely to create very similar franchises. Nintendo likes to produce new experiances look at when they finally went FPS, Geist wasn't like any other FPS on the market and while glitchy as heck it was pretty fun.

As for Prime being a Halo killer, I don't recall Nintendo ever saying they intended it to be. Metroid Prime was supposed to be an action adventure or First person adventure to be more specific. Not an FPS in the sense of Halo or Killzone. Nintendo when Prime first came put a huge emphasis on collecting information and clues and exploration rather then blowing the heads off of countless alien scum.

Unfortunetly and maybe fortunatly Nintendo isn't going to provide us with MS or Sony IP, Nintendo is a trail blazer and hopefully they will create another ground breaking franchise soon. Though I would love to see Nintendo create an FPS , they would do something unique not done by the competitors.

lol Bmmb not that I have anything against you but what "Interpretation" are you talking about? I never said anything like most of the repliers have been suggesting. I too read the actual interview and don't see how my OP is off beat, Nintendo will be bringing a ton of casual games to 3DS in 2012. I don't think I ever suggested that Nintendo would stop bringing hardcore as many have said in the replies I said this year the emphasis was on hardcore and next year Nintendo will be putting an emphasis on bringing some casual games to the market.

Please enlighten me as to how my interpretation is really wrong? Or what I suggested that Reggie was doing wrong? Because I don't think Reggie has done anything wrong.

As for that insults Nintendo thread, I have explained that already. No need to really bring it up. In the end I used Eurogamer as the source due to the fact they had the specific quotes rather then getting everyone to read the entire interview.

I have to say everyone freaking out does need to calm down. Nintendo is being smart and Reggie hasn't said anything wrong.  My OP suggested a casual assault next year which everything Reggie said appears to be true. The focus of the OP was on this casual assualt and not suggesting Hardcore would be forgotten.

P.S- I used exactly the quotes that Eurogamer did as well as the methodology of their article. Reading deeper into the interview about the casual drive specifically. I would like to hear how you think I was mis-interpretting the article? or the interview in the OP?

Doubtful Nintendo would ever put porn games on 3DS.
