Of course Reggie is going to say this. One of the most confusing tidbits to come out of Nintendo's Wii U unveiling at E3 was that Reggie in a couple of interviews said that they plan on not only continuing to support the Wii, but also releasing separate SKU's for certain games, presumably one for Wii and one that is compatible with Wii U's enhanced controller features.

Personally I think this is a dumb idea as it'll just keep the casuals from upgrading to the Wii U for awhile. They should pull a Microsoft and pull the plug on the Wii as soon as the Wii U is released like M$ did with the original Xbox as soon as the 360 launched. It's not like there's going to be any more compelling software for the Wii. I LOL'd when Reggie said they were still going to support the Wii. Yeah, with what games, Reggie? Once Mario Party 9 gets released, there's nothing on the radar at all for the Wii next year... and MP9 could still end up as a Wii U launch title, so who knows?

Well, if you think about it, he's the only one that has seen an actual Wii U game. We haven't. So, maybe what he says has some truth. Heck, now I'm getting excited, Wii U is going to be what the PS4 and Xbox 720 aren't.

he's funny no doubt. no wait he's seriousssssssssssly delusional. wii won't sale much longer nore will it sale like it previously did or like this yr. for that matter unless NOA releases those RPG'S they seem to think American fans care nothing about.

Reggie is being very optimistic. I doubt WiiU will mirror the success of Wii with the increased competition from Microsoft for the so called casual market. When Wii launched Nintendo had no real competitor but with Microsoft's Kinect 2.0 expected to be default with the next Xbox Nintendo is looking at some serious competition. Then it remains to be seen whether Sony will continue to support motion controls next generation but if they do then theirs even less of a chance of Nintendo regaining Wii's success.

However if Nintendo can manage to hold onto say 60% of the Wii's current user base and capture say 30% or so of Microsoft and Sony's then they could come close. But I think its going to be nearly impossible for WiiU to repeat the Wii's success, it just isn't very likely.

Then you have the statement about Wii continuing to sell for years to come. Well that all depends on Nintendo at 99$ Nintendo could sell Wii for another year or two. How long Nintendo keeps the console on the market is up to them and the retailers. But if the sales drop too low Nintendo isn't likely to cut price any lower then 99$. So the console has at max 2 years left in the North American market. If Nintendo shifts focus to the Middle East and Africa and Eurasia and India and such then they could possibly keep selling Wii for years to come due to its cheaper retail cost. But in North America the console won't last more then 2 years before Nintendo would have to drop the price below 99$. Nintendo isn't likely to turn a profit at below 99$ and if software sales aren't high enough it won't make sense for them to drop lower then that cost.

In the end Reggie just wants to pump people up. He doesn't want to admit repeating Wii's success will be nearly impossible!
