This is the same rumor that has been posted in the official thread (either the Wii U or Nintendo) yesterday. I think it is BS because of the DirectX 11 being supported part.

It does and doesn't make sense.
The actual GPU series has never been stated by AMD. It has largely been assumed to be from the HD 4xxx series which is DX 10.1 based. But if the GPU is actually basedd onthe HD 6xxx series, as this article suggests, it would then indeed be DX 11. It should also be noted that the UE4 engine is DX 11 based.
However, aside from consoles from MS, consoles don't use the DX API at all. But I usually ignore media reports about consoles having DX whatever support as it just shows their lack of knowledge on what DX is and how consoles handle rendering.

That's because people are not thinking out of the box.
Having DX11 support is more than utilizing the API, its classifying it in a certian category of power/capabilities. Sure, PS4/WiiU wont' use DX11, but their GPUs will be new enough that they fit that industry standard classification. Its really just for placing them among the many others.
The rumor is obviously fake, but not because of the DX11 part.
Developers like to speak of DirectX 11 if the GPU can offer DX11 like features. OpenGL and other APIs today just copy the features of DX11 for the most part. So if a card has DX11, the corresponding methods of other APIs also work on them. And that's what matters to developers.
PS3 and XBox360 are also sometimes called DX9-consoles, while that's not true for the PS3 at all (and also not a 100% true for the XBox360).
I tend to think that the only part that's BS in the rumored leak is the price. No way the Wii U will come close to $400, not unless Nintendo plans on shooting themselves in the foot.

Thanks! I did see that and have noted it in the OP. Though I still think the price will be $300.... maybe $350 as a max. I do think there is strong possiblity that they did go to that or similar GPU tho just to make sure it would be compatible with Unreal 4.
I wouldn't be surprised if it released at $400, but it would be a hard sell for Nintendo.
Sirius87 said: What I don't get: edit: and another thing I don't get: Why are you thinking that the Wii Us graphics card will have DP? You don't need DP for anything in gaming. That's more for scientific work. Also the bandwidth of the cards does not matter as long as it's fast enough so that the GPU does not have to wait for data. But that's not a problem in any of the graphics cards, so you might just skip that values (there really is nothing that they tell about the power of GPUs; things like Pixel (Fill) Rate or Texel Rate etc. would tell a lot more). |
1) I know it comes with teh 6550, but the rumors stated it had the 7000 series card instead.
2) The values for each gpu/cpu are based on stock off the shelf values and the associated rumors. So while wii u's initial card has DP but its not needed as you say, it still stock with that feature, so I noted it. If you notice with wii u's newest gpu rumor that one is not DP, so who knows. I also note that those specs are definitely not final as each company will heavily tweak the card for their use and right now no one knows what the tweaks are. However, I guess I could change the values I'm showing to ones people may care more about.
ALL, let me know what values/data would be better to see in the CPU/GPU comparisons and I'll fix.

Best values are pixel fillrate, texture fill rate, bandwidth, all clock speeds and TDP.
