2GB eDRAM? That would be way too expensive.

6-core CPU @ 4 threads per core is 24 threaded, not 32. That poster can't do basic math?

8GB GDDR5, structured as 240-Pin DIMM kit? "G" in DDR5 stands for Graphics memory. Graphics memory does not come in 240-Pin DIMM kits. It is soldered onto the PCB/mainboard to reduce latency for the GPU.  Also, we don't even have DDR4 publicly for sale in regular computers. The rumor apperas to bes mixing up 8GB DDR3 system memory and GDDR5 on the videocard or basically confused DDR3 with GDDR5.

I would believe the rumor if it said a 6-core 24 threaded IBM Power7 CPU + HD7770 2GB GDDR5 + 8GB of DDR3 system memory. That sounds reasonable. But in that case the GPU is pretty weak and 24-threaded CPU sounds overkill for such a low-end GPU. A 4-core 16 threaded CPU + HD7850 2GB and 4GB DDR3 console would be way preferable for games imo.

I think by looking at PS3 vs. 360 graphically, the Cell didn't really prove to be a worthwhile component that was worth the cost because the console became GPU limited in the latter years of its life. Wouldn't it make sense to repeat the Xbox 360 strategy and allocate more budget towards the GPU than the "24-32 threaded CPU"?  The most discouraging part is almost all of these rumors universally point to a fairly low end GPU.

- TSMC and/or GLOBALFOUNDRIES to manufacture the chip (there are not many options for that... so true)
- Release in first half 2014 (please do that Sony... no 2013)
- 28nm (true too)
- Steamroller if the GLOBALFOUNDRIES have enough capacity for manufacture... if not Sony will use TSMC with a custom Jaguar core.
- GCN architecture for APU

Well no "surprise" news... in line with what we were talkung a months.

Some Durango info from China.

"He said nextbox will use HD8XXX release in next year and Microsoft throw a lot money for that"
"Yup,he talked about yield problem because that GPU"
"What is netlist?whatever,he said all in one APU,huge size APU"
"Someone ask him about next-gen xbox power and 285W was his answer(285W ac adaptor i guess)"
"He said PS4 and XBOX F(F?) both are HI(i think he mean high)"
"He said i know where you(OP from that thread) are,but be carefu
And he also said MS have another machine maybe OP don't know"

"Actually the new one he just once again said nextbox will use HD8xxx GPU,and use HD8850/8870 news to hint about nextbox GPU"

Random tranlactions from a user in Beyond3D.

All the info in resume until now...

PS4:
- APU with 4 core steamroller at 3.2 Ghz and weak GPU
- 8 GB of RAM part (2 of which GDDR5) or 4 GB of GDDR5
- Discrete GPU AMD 8xxx

Xbox:
- APU with 8 Jaguar cores at 1.6 Ghz and AMD 8850 with eDRAM
 - 8 GB of DDR3/4 RAM

The next system war is begining to get hot.

I think PS4 will use this new APU... good... good.

A10 6800K

The successor to AMD's Trinity line of APUs, codenamed Richland, just got a name. It won’t surprise many that the top Richland processor will get the A10 6800K moniker. It will succeed AMD’s current flagship APU, the A10 5800K, and continue the similar naming convention.

The A10 6800K is a quad-core APU with DirectX 11 support and it will fit well known 100W TDP envelope. It continues to support FM2 motherboards and the rest of AMD’s Trinity infrastructure. The K suffix indicates that the processor will come with an unlocked multiplier and it will offer easy overclocking for the willing. Naturally Richland A-series APUs do support AMD Turbo core and its graphics is based on Radeon HD 8000 series.

The expected launch date is June, but the production should be ready by late March 2013. Production candidate samples were scheduled for early December, while late January should be the time for production ready samples. The Richland generation currently consists of four quad-cores and two dual-core processors, but at this time we still don’t know the final clock speeds. We can just pass on that there are 100W and 65W TDP parts, in both dual and quad-core flavours.

I'd take it with a grain of salt. No where does it indicate 28nm, even though AMD has said that 28nm fabrication process and Steamroller will be delayed.

The TDP for those seems to remain constant with a slight improvement for the CPU and a good jump to next gen integrated GPU for the APU. All points to 32nm.

And yes, if the PS4 is to have an APU, this would be the one it needs at least.

I like that number (285W) - they can put lot of nice things in 200W (if 70% is taken into account).

And astonishing if they managed to squeeze 8850 inside - if we look at 7870LE (or should I say 7930) reviews, which has pretty much the same config as rumoured 8850, that card is just slightly slower than 7950, and some 30-35% faster than 7850, which was something I thought it was most promising candidate for high powered NextBox.
