The real question is:

Why the hell do people care about Blu-ray?

DVD is the best digital medium. When something goes digital, it doesn't get better.

High Definition doesn't make the picture quality better. It formats the image to fit your TV.

In English, it takes full screen, throws it out the window, and takes 16:9 ratio and formats that ratio to fit your TV screen while removing the black bars that you would have on a 4:3 ratio TV.

720p,1080i,1080p > 480p

People are going to go fucking blind staring at 70-inch TV's.

Un less your some idiot watching the TV with your face on the screen then no you won't go blind, infact the larger the TV the further you can be from the TV it's self and still see the improvemtns that 1080p resolution has over 480p.

In any case why are so against Hi def?

No, the QUESTION is exactly as redisad asked...why are you people WASTING OUT TIME? WHY?

You are Wasting our time with all your hd-dvd fanboy nonsence. Together we can make BLURAY the unified format, not sit here listening to you whiners about your dead hd-dvd drives.

One HAD to go away, or else recordable DVDs could not have caught on.

Excuse me? I didn't get the memo where either - or + has lost that war. All players in the market today support reading both, all burners support recording both, both kinds of discs are still sold, sometimes even by the same brands, a lot of the time at the same price. The consumer is no longer confused. They buy the cheapest discs regardless of kind, it records on every burner, it plays on every player. It works, that's all that matters.

I'm for the same thing. Dual format players should win. If HD DVD is cheaper, it'll get some movies released. If Bluray has better bandwidth, it'll secure the movies that need it. Boxes are different in color but otherwise equal, quality is just about the same. There'd be no confusion to be had if dual format won, and that could definitely drive the prices of both players and content down, IMO.

both dvd +/- r hold the same space and the disc were simular but bluray and hdvd are a little more different. bluray hold more room and has more support. most of these people do not want to buy an hd dvd player so they can watch all movie. and a dual player will take a lot longer to drop inprice, this mean we would have to wait longer.

I support HD DVD over Blu Ray for a few reasons.

First, I enjoy having the extra Web content in movies. Like in Transformers - during certain scenes, you can access Web content that gives more in-depth look at items, more than the director's commentary can provide.

Second, I have been importing VCDs for years - and not having to worry about region coding thrilled me. I haven't bought any foreign HD DVDs yet, but planned on it when the price came down enough. And besides, I can get quite a few BR titles on HD DVD overseas.

Third, I wasn't impressed by the pricing of the HD players. When I was able to get 9 free HD DVDs and a $99 player, I had no choice but to hop in.

Lastly, I am not thrilled with the prospect of buying into a format that is still trying to find its way. That would be Blu Ray. They are still trying to implement features into their players that are standard in HD DVD players. And I could care less about the storage capacity. It can all be changed with a firmware update.

Do I plan to sell my 360 add-on or HD DVD player anytime soon? Nah. I enjoy it thoroughly. I also have no plans to go Blu unless I buy a 60gb PS3 with full BC. That is the only way I will go Blu soon. Maybe if there's a $99 BR player, but that is quite a ways off.

Becasue they dont understand that CE companies will still have competition between themselves to get the price low enough. Really I think Phillips is release a $350 Blu-ray player and Sony is releasing a sub $200 PC drive yet HD-DVD fans will say that there is no way the prices are that low when these prices are REAL.

Tell you what, when a BluRay play drops below $200 I won't care which format wins. But if HD DVD was to die today, you wouldn't see a sub $200 BluRay player for at least two years. The compatition between the two formats has brought down prices to mass market appeal.
