I really think the OP and the people here are too optimistic. this game isnt going to be 9/10, i doubt it will be a solid 8.5/10.
the core of any FF game is the story and its characters. the problem with FF13 is that many complained it was like a soap opera. and to be honest, it was terribly unrealistic characterisations with endless lines of uncessary dialogue. the FF13-2 trailer has a scene where Snow saves Serah and Noel (is that his name?) and its just endless lines of trash spoken in an argumentative manner. its like these developers dont understand in the real world people actully have conversations with each other they dont shout at each other to communicate. its seems a lot like a soap opera in this sense,
the problem is these things havent been improved upon. monster catching and fighting and now multiple dialogue trees have been added. FF6,7,8,9,10 didnt have this, yet some would consider each of those games phenominal in their own right. do i really want Pokemon style monster catching in FF, hell no, training monsters to fight each other for no narative based purpose is a bore, and i really think its going to suck. just like capturing 10 of every monster in FF10 also sucked. secondly multiple dialogue trees. if Mass Effect, inFamous, etc has taught us anything its that one choice is good one in bad. thats it. we all want to be the hero so we all go for the good choice eventually. either way FF never needed dialogue trees, i bet theres other additions that we look at that are also going to be rubblish, just like how monster hunting from FF13 was rubbish, FF12 implemented a great monster hunt system, yet FF13s was pretty awful.
either way this is a sequel, there is no mainline FF number to protect this game, i think the critical reception will be very critical.
