Microsoft is preparing to make the first official announcements for its next-gen Xbox console at the CES expo in January

According to French site Xboxygen, the platform holder won't make any significant announcements related to software or features, but will speak of the hardware and its specs

Citing an anonymous source close to Microsoft, it says MS has two groups working on the console; a group called 'Infinity' working on the hardware, and another called 'Loop' in charge of software development.

It goes on to state the machine will contain a hex-core (six-core) CPU at its heart, strapped to an AMD graphics card and 2GB of DDR3 RAM.

CES takes place in Las Vegas in January.

Rumours surrounding Microsoft's next console have been rampant of late, with the latest reports claiming it will be slimmer and cheaper than the current console.

No way.

A) they wouldn't announce it this early, they're not Nintendo. They announced X360 5 months before it launched.
B) 2012 launch is out of the question, Halo 4 is coming and it's coming on X360, they wouldn't launch it on 720, userbase is far to small.
C) they won't price cut this holiday, they'll chop $100 off the kinect bundle price 2012 holiday and that'll be what they focus on to compete with PS3 $199 and WiiU.

Hmmm, not quite what I was hoping for, I was expecting atleast 4 gigs of ram. Assuming this is all true of course (Which it probably isn't).

If this is accurate 2GB of RAM would be mighty disappointing, possibly to the point of even being deal breaking I am going to say that it will not be so. Plus the reasons Seece mentioned, 2012 will not see the release of the next Xbox if Microsoft are smart (which they are).

Usually Seece has decent analysis, but this time he is way way off.

MS would be pretty stupid not to launch in 2012.

Halo 4 on both consoles, all fall 2012 games are fully forward compatable..
Price segmentation next year with 50/100 price cuts and New box with Kinect 2.0 at $399/499. Lack of price cut this, helps the case for launch next year.
Crush Nintendo and Sony at the same time, at least in NA

Well, if it's supposed to do Avatar level graphics 2GB of RAM won't cut it. At the very least it has to be 4GB.

Also, Seece is right, it just doesn't make sense to release the 720 and simultaneously release Halo for for the 360.
That would just screw each other up.

Ya i agree. Halo 4 could sell 14-18 million copies if it were on both consoles, if it were just 360 11-14 million. It would also push more sales of next console since it has the better version, win win. Also i dont think they would need another kinect. Kinect uses the 360's processor so kinect with the "720 or loop or TEN"'s processor would basically be kinect 2.0 .

2 gigs of ram wouldnt be that bad(though i hope for 4+). In computers 1.5-2 gigs of ram are used for just the OS. So a 2 gig console would be like a 4 gig computer.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

Seece nailed it imo. Unless Halo 4 releases for both systems.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

It very well could. it would sell more that way, and it would push console sales for the new console. i mean they have had enough time, they started work on halo 4 in 2008.
