Forums - Movies & TV - What's the best 3D TV you know? Which TVs get spoilt/broken quickly?

My family's about to buy 3 new TVs. I want one of them to be 3D TV but that might not be possible if there's no 3D TV that's both good and affordable. I don't want a TV that uses battery operated glasses. Also, if the TVs really expensive, its untouchable for us. Finally, if it's cheap but blurs the 3D or is too dark, etc, then we'll just get a regular TV instead.

Also, I don't mind suggestion for good non-3D TVs since the other 2 TVs won't be 3D TVs. I'm thinking Samsung UA55D8000 and Panasonic Viera TH-P46G10A. Finally, I'd like to know which 'good' TVs to keep away from because said TVs will get broken/spoilt too soon.

All the active 3D glasses require a battery, so if you don't want battery operated glasses then you are ruling out almost all 3D TVs. Your only option (as far as I know) would be LG with the Cinema 3D TVs that use passive glasses.

But I'm no expert, so you should ask disolitude or read professional reviews. For example you could go to flatpanelshd. (Active vs Passive 3D or LG's 3DCinema TVs)

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Really you should go for the panasonic Viera, my brother works for a local hi-fi and home video magazine, they do a lot of TV testing. Panasonic is consistently on top of video and construction quality, the 3D tecnology work in many cases even better than on Sony TVs also, it's generally more reliable than Sansumg equivalents since it's made with more durable materials.

If you want the best alternative go for the plasma VT-30, video quality is stellar for the price, the cons: plasma tecnology is not at all power efficient. And 3D glasses are active, but you'll hardly get a better 3D than this.

Actually if you want to avoid TV to get spoiled to soon you should basically avoid Samsung. They can make cheaper TVs with good quality panels since they are the biggest panel manifacturer by a large margin. The problem is, to keep the price lower, they often use cheaper less reliable electronic components, also for design requirements, often Samsung TV are too thin and don't properly allow heat dispersion.

Samsung UEs are quite good. The new generation has really slim borders.

LGs are the only passive 3D TVs that I know of, but last gen the 3D effect was not that good supposedly. However, this gen might have changed, as new models came out in April.

Generally, LG offers the best value (low priced TVs, acceptable quality) and Samsung are the benchmark for tech vs. cost.

At least that was when I looked into buying a TV. Got the Samsung UE46C6000 and am quite happy with it.

So stay way from Samsung if I want a long lasting TV, get a panasonic Vierra (that's a series, right?) and passive 3D not that impressive?

the problem passive 3D TV sets have is that the vertical resolution is halfed in 3D mode (1920x540 per eye instead of 1920x1080 per eye with active 3D sets/glasses) - I think they are more viable once native resolutions hit 2560x1440 or 3840x2160 as the difference between 540 and 1080 vertical lines is more visible than the difference between 720 and 1440 or 1080 and 2160

get Panasonic Viera plasma 3D TV its the best in picture quality and in 3D

Stay away from sammy? Why? Never had a problem. My two previous sammys were 5 and 3 years old respectively.

I'm thinking more like 10 years. What happened to them eventually?

@NNN2004, is it passive 3D?
