biggest new franchise is gears of war but the best for me depends on how bioshock infinite will be. if it will be as good as i hope bioshock is the best new ip and mass effect second best. gears and uncharted share place 3. maybe gears 3 and uncharted 4 because gears redifined the third-person gameplay

Mass Effect for me, but Infamous, Gears of War and Batman Arkham games were all REALLY close

Professor Layton.
I know what you're thinking: What? A pluzzle game?
Well, turns out, the game has fun and adictive gameplay, excelent story AND storytelling, amazing characters, incredible dialogue and writting, emotional and very strong moments and a incredible soundtrack.
Last year, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future was my GOTY, over SMG2, DK and MH.
This year, only Zelda has a shot of matching Layton: The Last Specter.

It would have to be Uncharted and Modern Warfare (I know it's Call of Duty but I feel the Modern Warfare games count as a series).

Assassin's Creed would have been on the list, but I only loved the second game, the rest were meh and they are milking it to death now.

Split between No More Heroes and Rock Band.... I guess NMH.

I forgot Blazblue as well, I think that deserves a mention

I guess I'll have to go with Uncharted series.

Dragon age origins, LBP and Valkyria chronicles all beat Uncharted 1 in my opinion, but they all have sequels that were in some way disappointing. Uncharted is the only one that improved. DA2 terrible compared to the first one, LBP 2 campaign was shorter and not as fun, Valkyria Chronicles 2 not available on PS3 :(

Assasin's creed deserves an honorable mention, too bad for the boring first one and AC brotherhood feeling more like an expansion pack.
