Forums - Gaming - Gears of War 3 vs Uncharted 3 the better game?

Exactly this. I have to admit Uncharted 2's online wasn't that impressive. It was good but no where near Gears of War or Halo. But Uncharted 3 really changed that. With unlimited customization of weapons, characters, may types of maps which are all enjoyable. In gmae cutscenes in MP make Uncharted 3 better than Gears in my opinion. And with the mass amount of people playing in Uncharted 3's MP this could soon or already infact is one of the  largest online played games. Although I'm curently playing to Gears of War 3 co-op and I have to say I might be changing my opinion on this. But I still have yet to re judje the online multiplayer

Most people I know don't want a cutscene taking up their time when they want to play with friends.  Alone is one thing, but otherwise, leave that out.  But let's be serious... UC3's online players don't come CLOSE to Gears 3, not to mention everyone who's playing MW3 now on both consoles.  The sales just aren't there to even compare yet.  I don't doubt that UC3's multiplayer is better than UC2... but play Gears 3 for a week and with friends and you'll see.  Forget the story mode, do beast and horde and versus with friends.

No use arguing with a man who never even played UC3 MP. Your comparing it with COD really? That's why it got a 2.0 (PS3 and 360 versions) from Metacritic users right? And come on there's no reason to bring sales in this. Most people who play Cod are girls or 12 year olds and you want to compare that wwith Uncharted? Shame on you

They're called trolls for a reason.  When 2000 people create accounts in metacritic just to give MW3 a 0 for a rating, you actually take that as gospel?  Please.  Think about it... if it has an overall 8.9 rating out of 10 by all REAL reviewers, and its by far the most played game, do you really think most people think it's a 3.1 (currently what it's at on metacritic for the 360)?  It's just a bunch of angry fan boys of both consoles who are upset that it's going to outsell their favorite game 5 times over.  It's the most successful and because of that, the most hated on game in history.  COD is the biggest baddest kid on the block, whether you like it or not.  Most of the people I know playing it are men in their 20's and 30's who get together after a hard days work. Maybe that's because of who I know and talk to, or maybe because ALL age groups play MW3 more than any other game.  Who knows...

I'm not comparing the game as a whole to UC3, I'm telling you that it's a multiplayer based game, like Halo and Gears.  UC3 is a better game than MW3 overall, but for multiplayer only, which one are people running to play and posting a million vids on youtube about... I see those numbers for Halo, Gears, COD, etc... for a reason.  Uncharted on Metacritic has a 9.2... 0.3 higher than MW3... which means Metacritic doesn't have a problem with comparing the two.  People need to stop being a hater of the most popular game on the market, which no doubt, directly leads to more sales of your favorite game and helps the industry as a whole.

It seems people are not happy about my decision of Uncharted 3 -co op better than Gears of War 3 co-op. I understand the people that are un happy but not the people who are calling me a troll. I at least gave a proper reasoning for my decision. But since many people do not agree with my statement I will reconsider it an replay both co-op and online modes for each game and if I will change my statement if I find anything different or better in each game this time around

You have to understand that Gears 3 multiplayer is basically unlimited, with the different game types, maps, and weapons.  Similar to the Halo series.  UC3 has multiplayer, but it's not a multiplayer type game.  Just like Gears 3 story, while pretty cool, lacks in the voice acting department because well... it's not a story-based game like UC3 is.  They have their strengths, and UC3's is not multiplayer.

My favorite series is Mass Effect, and when the third game comes out with its multiplayer, no doubt I will be on that... but I can't even rank it against real multiplayer games... it's an RPG single player game at its core.

thats just not true at all.

Uncharted IS MULTIPLAYER. its huge, it prominent, and it keeps maing you come back.

with constant progression and leveling up, you are always rewarded for playing. new booster to unlock, uprading your existing boosters, getting kickbacks and upgrading those.

then there are the weapons, plenty of them, you get and unlock those, can upgrade them, modify them, so many combinations.

you can customize you character to nearly anything you want.

then of course theres the game play, as far as i know no other game has gameplay mechanics that rivl uncharted. what other multiplayer gives you so many different ways to play. the climbing and verticality is a HUGE part of the game, get to higher ground, get a better vnatage point. you can pull down and kickdown people. if you are on the same wall you can kick to the side, kick down, pull down, you can toss grenades, shoot, etc all while hanging. theres  stealth kills. then theres the strategy of melee-ing, but if you straight up melee you will likely tie, because it takes to hits, so you have to be smart about it, run and gun then punch.

some guns are terrible for running and gunning, others are quite good, you have to take this into consderation.

now you can throw back grenades.

now there are dynamic environments, all in the multiplayer. you and running and jumping from car to car to plane, from train to train. the movement of the vehicles effects you shots.

then some big innovation is the buddy system, you have a buddy and you get rewarded for staying with him, you can high five of a person you killed together to get a medal to go to your kickback. you can spawn on him tacticly. then there are the dropped treasures, that you must get to get your kickback, you buddy can pick it up for you. there is also treasure chest, that reward you with treasure and medals. you must go out and get these. all of these things make camping nearly impssible.

then there are power weapons strewn accross the map (rpg, hammer, shotguns, mag5, RPK), turrets, zip lines. all change the dynamic of multiplayer.

you can also wager to make things more interesting, you bet a certain amount of money that you will get X amount of kills, grenade kills, pull downs, assits, etc, all kinds of things, if you complete it you get lots of cash, to go to buying new things, if you fail you loose your intitial investment.

then theres online and LAN play, online and offline split screen. you can either play competitive multi against a friend sitting right next to you, or you can play co-op with him. you can both play online together, with your own ID's both co-op and competitive. also there is the simul-vue mode that i wil be using once i get that new display.

and i can only touch on co-op, as admittedly i havent played much (yet). but there is story co-op where you play missions with friends that all have their own seperate stories and missions from the campaign, its unique from the campaign. then there is a co-op mode where you face waves of enemies, but unlike zombies you can complete this mode, and there are objectives to somtimes, sometimes you have to defend a designated area. then there is a co-op mode, where there are two teams of human players, and both teams take turns trying to put an idol in a chest, the defending team gets AI teamates, the team trying to score has to fight both AI and humans, its very fun. the there is co-op objective, where you and up to 2 other people play many rounds trying to complete different objectives, get this many kills, score this idol, see how long you can hold on to the idol, etc.

everything in UNcharted is hugely fleshed out, and multiplayer is among the best in the Biz, and is easliy the best for me, topping Killzone 3.

Dude have you even played the UC3 MP? Go play Hunter, Arena, Adventure and Team objective. Its easily my most favourite to play with buddies this generation. Its exactly this Im talking about when I said some people just cant accept that Uncharted has an amazing MP. Jesus christ..

I look forward to doing so.  UC2's multiplayer was stiff as a board and I hear there are more upgrades this time around from everything I've read.  But then again, how can I take what you say seriously when you have an uncharted picture as your icon, two pictures from uncharted in your sig, and you saying that it's the best thing ever right underneath that?  Shoot man, I love Mass Effect 1 and 2 more than any other game, but no one has come out with a perfect game yet.  Sometimes you gotta take off the blinders and just have some fun.   It's funny watching all the fanboys in here (mostly on Sony's side with this website) dropping to their knees to support their game or to say another one sucks.  But when you grow up, you realize that it doesn't matter what's on the title or what system it's on as long as it's good.  It's one thing when it's say... a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie that you know is going to make a billion dollars, but still sucks just like all of them since the sequel and get's another 30/100 rating on metacritic or rotten tomatoes... you can get upset at that, or just shake your head at the very least.  (This isn't really directed at you, unless it pertains to you, but:) If MW3 gets around a 9/10 from just about every legit game reviewer, just barely below UC3, then is it possible that it is exactly that?  A good, fun game to play.  I'm not even that huge of a fan... I probably won't play MW3 until it's $30, so it definitely isn't at the top of my wish list, and I wasn't a fan of black ops at all, so don't take it like I'm all over COD.

I just came in here to say that Gears 3 and UC3 aren't the same type of game at all... one is known for it's amazing single player action campaigns, and the other is known for it's multiplayer, and both for good reason.  Given the reviews of them, they are pretty much on par, but its apples and oranges.  Both are delicious, and both have their strengths depending on what you want to go for.

i believe its safe to say that you have played neither of the unharted's multiplayer (or just a few minutes of 2's) because nothing could be furhter from the truth.

Uncharted is known for its multiplayer, and reviewers praised it to no end, at how surprisingly amazing it was (uncharted 2), and this has continued to Uncharted 3. uncharted 2 was easily the most played multiplayer game on the ps3 after call of duty, nothing even came close. 2 years after its release it still get 40,000+ people playing at anytime. uncharted has made its self very well known for its multiplayer, both reviewers and players reflect this.

also could it be that he loves unhcarted and thinks its the best game that is why he is a sony fan, and has that sig. not the other way around; him being a Sony fanboy, so he makes that sig and defends Uncharted.

its you that needs to take those blinders off, because Uncharted is the epitome of multiplayer

Although most of the reviews I have read say that the multiplayer is improved yet still a weak part of the game, I'll admit that it does sound like some fun times... but nothing that major multiplayer games didn't already have in their previous release.  Everything you said sounds like a slightly different version of Gears 2 multiplayer with a bit more tangible reward (something that all games are doing now)... and if it is as good as Gears 2 multiplayer, than that's pretty good.  Especially when you add it onto a great single player experience.  Like I said, I'm getting my information from less bias reviews and sites, but one thing that UC2 lacked was actual multiplayer gameplay mechanics... very stiff compared to the major multiplayer games.  Would you say UC3 improved on the actual mechanics a lot?

the funny thing is that you acted the exact way you are describing in that post when people said that in their opinion gears wasn't better...
