Before this gen, outside super hero games/Jak/Mortal Kombatext I didnt play to many western games but were still open to playing them if interesting. Now... outside super hero games and already established western IP's from my past.. Never. The priorities that go into making a western game, and alot of shit they pioneered this gen sickens me to no end.

Yes, I've become more inclusive with the genres/franchises I play

If anything I've grown more attached to my old genres. Too many shootings, not enough swordings.

Not really I still love Great games.

Well this is a tough question.

My gaming tastes have evolved but haven't changed fundamentally.

Some people say they grew out of platforming or Turn Based RPG's etc...etc... that over time as they grew older they stopped enjoying the genre's they grew up with.

Personally I still love every genre I have ever loved whether it be my all time favorite Platformers to turn based RPG's or Real Time or Turn based strategy games.

What has changed this generation? Well I would say FPS and tactical military games never were my thing. Doom, Duke, Unreal Tournament none of them really appealed to me. But Halo began to appeal to me last generation then during this generation I began playing all kinds of shooters and a genre that never really interested me quickly became one of my favorites.

Another thing that has changed is graphics. GameCube and all generations prior I could care less about graphics. A good game was a good game it could be an Atari 2600 game and still be equally as enjoyable as the latest Call of Duty. However this generation has changed that, I still enjoy all the classics but it used to be if I were offered say Super Mario Bros (NES) or God Of War III I would choose SMB because it was a better game. Today however I still love SMB but the visuals aren't good enough to keep me entertained as long as an inferior but prettier looking game.

In the end today I like shooters and pretty games where as in the past neither really mattered to me.

Some people say I grew out of RPG's but that is not true. I have always been a turn based RPG guy and in the last generation or so developers have moved away from turn based RPG and more and more into real time RPG,RPG's like say Mass Effect seem to much like a shooter then an RPG and other more like hack and slash button mashers. I enjoy the old school RPG's like Pokemon, EvolutionWorld , EarthBound!

Very much so. At the end of the last gen I had mostly played JRPGs, but I felt like the games were to long and the stories all seemed the same.
This gen coop and multiplayer with shooters became my thing. Picked up WRPGs as I just feel they fit stories I like. The characters are less feminine . They focus on individuals more than groups a lot. Which is a main difference in Western and Eastern society, with Western being more individualistic. Those games just fit my tastes more now.

Yes, my taste has changed slightly, but my guess is that it's more a question of age rather than anything else.

Now I tend to play games on a less impulsive, more relaxed way.

Please excuse my bad English.

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Before this gen, I played mostly platformers, and sports sims with the occasional FPS. Now I play a lot more online-oriented genres like FPS, Co-op games, and the like. One thing that I also started playing was iPhone/DS type handheld games like Scribblenauts. Overall, my gaming tastes did change.

The only thing that has changed this gen is that since I have decided to become a game developer, I play games not only for fun anymore, but also to learn as much as possible about how to execute something well and how to do it poorly.

My thread for teaching VGC some Nigerian slangs

I played virtually every genre before. I play virtually every genre, now. No big change. I do notice that, since the Nes days of Ninja Gaiden and Astyanax, I've gravitated towards games with massive cutscenes and obtuse storytelling. I'm sorta leaning back to games that are games first and movies second.
