Forums - Gaming - Console wars reach British Parliament: MP says Wii is better than PlayStation

http://spong.com/article/25740/UK-MP-Tells-Government-Committee-Wii-is-Better-than-PlayStation Media 'celebrity' and New Labour (or Labour, who knows?) MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, Diane Abbott, has told a Parliamentary debate that the Wii is better than the PlayStation for helping to cut down on obesity. Ms Abbot was responding to Andrew Bingham (High Peak, Conservative) who asked in Westminster Hall, "We talked briefly about video games. Does the hon. Lady think that the advent of Wii Fit-type games is beneficial? I have seen young people playing them, and they involve a lot of jumping around and so on, which I suppose is a form of exercise, at least." Ms Abbbot opened her mouth and, apparently not armed with PlayStation Move and a copy of Dance Star Party or Zumba Fitness or any of the other PS3 titles in the dancey-fitness sphere said: "Far be it from me to advertise any particular product in this Chamber, but Wii Fit games are perhaps better than PlayStation games." Thankfully, Simon Burns (Minister of State for Health) and the Tory member for Chelmsford actually had something sensible to say: "I have been listening carefully to the hon. Lady, who is making some valid points. The danger has to do with not simply the age of computer games but the age of television before that. For some parents—this is a generalisation—the easy option is to let their children spend hours watching television or playing games, because it involves less effort on the parents’ part. One must try to educate people that that is not only an easy option but an unfair one." This is a matter of national interest. Vote Wii 2012!

Kids are a lot more inclined to go outside and play if their console has no games, so I suppose the Wii is better in that regard.

haha this is hilarious. Wii-fit games and move games are hardly a proper form of exercise, I could get more exercise just walking around the house and going upstairs and downstairs.

I thought this was a well known fact of life.

Also saying Wii is better than Playstation is basically saying Wii is better than PS1, 2 and 3. obviously she meant PS3 but...yeah.

Anyways this is a truth that only delusional people cannot accept. Well done, my dear woman.
