Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy VII...not quite like I remembered.

Blasphemy! I have felt the same thing with other games, it does suck because you can't seem to enjoy them as much as you used to.

This is why I find it funny people recommend FF VII to a person just starting off the series. To a new person it's usually not going to be the most ideal starting point since it's dated.

Yeah, most will just burn their eyes out and never touch a Final Fantasy game again. It's one of the worst games to start with imo, as it's one of, if not the, ugliest Final Fantasy game. It just hasn't aged well at all graphicwise (is that a word?). Even the cutscenes looks kinda bad, and those were mighty impressive back in the days. For people who have yet to be seduced by the Final Fantasy magic, the graphics will in many cases scare them away before they're even close to getting hooked by the, apart from graphics, great game.

I'd say IV (remake), VI, IX, X and XII are good games to start with (I haven't played XIII), and once the little padawan has gotten some experience he can choose freely as the risk for lifelong injuries is gone.

I get the same feeling today as I did the first time I played it. I dont know why but that game has no equal in my eyes.

Well, with a name like that, it's not hard to believe your statement :P

I know it's a pretty cliche response, but it really depends on who you are and what your personal preferences are. For example, Final Fantasy VI was near impossible for me to play twice, whereas I pretty much play Final Fantasy VII once every two years. Although, I will agree with you that Chrono Trigger is a blast. I can see why FFVII can be hard for you to play through again though, since you didn't enjoy the story as much (lacking the punch from the first experience) and the graphics have aged. To be honest, I have also experienced the same feelings towards games I once loved.

Let me clarify that a little more. Looking back at the RPGs I have played, there aren't that many stories that stand out that make me go "wow." Xenogears is one of those stories, although it was convoluted and could be quite confusing to some on their first time through the game. Most RPGs have stories that are cliched, although it depends on how the story is told.

It had great FMV but it all characters were blockheads

Yeah i get that same feeling with older games. You remember being excited even during the time you were playing. I kind of do the same with FFX and Kingdom Hearts just doesn't feel the same.

The thing keeping me from replaying FFX (or did until the news of FFX HD) was the fact that Tidus and Yuna annoy me to no end. It's hard to ignore them, too, since they are the main characters and all.

lol yeah tidus was real annoying.

ff9 is great, i played it again not that long ago.

Yeah, I played FF9 a second time about a year ago and I enjoyed it about the same as when I first played it.

muahaha this just shows that FF IX is the real fukkin deal...best FF evar!

I agree, when I play FFVII now I see plot holes, cheesy dialogue and problems the 11 year old me didn't see while playing the game.

However FFIX has aged very well, it's still great to play and it's why FFIX is my favorite FF.
