Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is purposely delaying 3DS games!

I don't know about this. Right now 3DS is seriously lacking SW, and having more choices for this holiday season can't be too bad. I'm sure there are many people that are waiting for one game in particular and won't get the system this xmas now.

Also, many of these titles are evergreen and will push HW forever anyway, so I don't know if leaving them for later will be so effective.

Nintendo is only delaying games that would have been ready for this holiday season. These games weren't ready to be released earlier in the year when the 3DS suffered a drought, so what this move leads to is that 2012 won't see another drought of similar proportions.

This holiday season is fine as it is. Nintendo is releasing two big games which are complimented by a bunch of good third party software. More isn't needed, because there is enough to choose from. Of course, their notion about video games needing to stay fresh is bogus, but the intent to spread releases more evenly out across the whole year is the right idea.

There are already four 3DS games I need to buy in the next two months, don't need another two. There just isn't enough time to play them all.

I didn't mean they should have six games so you can play them all, but so more people may have interest in at least one.

But I can see your point. The 3DS shouldn't have to suffer the draught that Wii suffered this year, it makes it seem like the system's dead. Obviously, what they should have done is have them ready at launch and build a good line up before the holidays. Anyway, I believe this will be a second launch for 3DS, we'll see how it fares.

Nintendo always intended to leave the launch window wide open for 3rd parties. Instead they just delay their games, too.

The 1983 crash happened because too many bad games were made
The 2011 crash will happen because too many good selling games were made??????

I believe this can reduce competition and not blow the load. Though if this is the case. Then they should be working on their next game and not having free time. Which for some reason I feel that's what they are doing in times like this.

You saw that somewhat from the holiday games for 2008, iirc. Oversaturation meant that a number of games sold worse than they probably should have

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Realistically, I would expect the difference in time between a game being "completed" and Nintendo releasing it would (probably) be 4 to 6 weeks; and it probably has more to do with preventing game release clumping than anything else

My thoughts exactly

It seems like they are referring to:

Luigi's Mansion 2, Paper Mario 3D, and Animal Crossing 3D...great LOL. They are my three most wanted Nintendo published 3DS games!

Wow, so maybe this is the reason for most games being released in the months before christmas? Who would have thought?

Maybe they are trying to avoid a Wii situation, where all the good stuff comes in one season and the rest of the year has zilch to little, smart move IMHO. But if 3rd parties stick around 3DS may never suffer that faith

That's nothing unusall. If you can only release X games per year it's better to space them out to make sure there's constant supply of exclusives to your platform. Otherwise you create impression of software drought.

Smart move imo

Better than having a huge period with no releases, and it's better for the games so they don't cannibalize each other's sales
