they don't know microsoft own MechWarrior's ip?

They don't own the IP really, they owned the digital rights to the IP but the origonal creator brought most of them back, but MS still retained certain rights so they had to sign off on a videogame bassed on the IP, even tho they would not be publishing the game themselves they still managed to use their lawyers to block a PS3 SKU.

"MechWarrior® is a registered trade-mark of Microsoft Corporation and is used under license."

That is only the MechWarrior name when used on a videogame hence how they blocked the PS3 SKU, the ip is actually owned by Topps via WizKids http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/2950.html. You will notice that MS are not the publisher on the game, nor were they on the reboot. I'm not sure why they didn't just change the name to BattleTech but MS probably would have still found a way to block it and they would have to change/remove some of the mechs and story.

Hear hear! Awesome truth right here!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Like I said MS own the digital (for videogames) rights to the name Mechwarrior, which they are licensing to Jordan Weisman who is sub licensing to the developer of the current game. The IP including most of the Mechs, backstory etc is owned by Topps. So in other words the ip is owned by Topps and the digital trademark is owned by Microsoft, trademark=/=ip.

I am also fully aware of the Mechwarrior games MS have published in the past...

Ownership over the franchise has not changed hands. Microsoft only licensed it out to a 3rd party. They do that all the time. Look at Banjo-Kazooie, Blue Dragon, and Ninety-Nine Nights.

Did you even read those links?

"Goods and Services:  computer programs, namely game software for use on computers and video game players"

That is exactly what I said MS own partial rights to the name Mechwarrior, specifically the rights to use it for videogames, not the IP it's self...  And that is exactly what I have been saying all along.

And I know it's a board game that's where the IP came from and what the video games are bassed on what's your point? All the mechs, backstory and factions all come from the boardgame, and that is what constitutes an IP not just the name.

And I am fully aware that MS own the Videogame rights (tho they are licensing them out) that's what I have been saying from the start, they still don't own the IP.

Wait a minute, I assumed that Microsoft only owned the digital rights to MechWarrior. The actual IP, which is the Battletech Universe and all its information like, story, characters, and Mech designs are owned by Topps or something.

Or is this what you guys are saying and being confusing for fun?

Well that's what I have been saying...

And another funny fact Topps don't own all the Mech designs Harmony Gold own a few of them... The IP is all over the place.
