It's much higher quality than 15 years ago that's for sure (about 93/100 top games on meta are from the year 2000+)

8!? for Mario!? but really who cares, reviews gave 8's to Mario Kart Wii and Mario Bros Wii as well, and look at the sales...

great for Zelda!! : )

seems it's going to resurrect the Wii for the holidays!!

Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past? Are you saying that Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are(will be) better then these 2 games?

Times and standards change I guess, big budget games then had to do a lot to get real appreciation. Original Tomb Raider was seen as pinacle at it's time. How do you think this game would hold up on modern ratings and standards?

A great playable game will always be like that. My 3 favourite games are from 96-97 and I keep going back to them.

Yes twilight princess is and Skyward sword will be better than a link to the past and ocarina of time.

What if Skyward Sword is better? Isn't there any possibility for it to be so? Or is it fixed in some dogma that ALTTP and OOT are supposed to be the pinnacles of Zelda games? 

That's a bit of a close-minded perspective. My favourite console is the SNES and I always find myself going back to playing Lufia, ALTTP, Chrono, FFVI, The Secret of Mana games, Secret of Evermore...the list goes on and on. But just because it's my favourite console with some of my favourite games of all time, doesn't mean that modern games can't surpass them as well.

Nice scores all around. Looks like Skyward Sword could be a serious GOTY contender if it continues to gain scores like that.

an 8 from edge is like at least a 9 from anyone else (they tend to rate games more on quality AND innovation AND originality...)so by that reckoning Mario 3dland is probably a decent game but I'm guessing it doesn't reinvent the wheel...at least by edge's standards. They've given other mario games an 8 or less and I've lived with it (as I recall they gave nsmbwii a 7...so what does that tellya?)
