Forums - Nintendo - Is Nintendo rushing announcements of games?

Well Iwata just recently announced more software features for 3DS. Among the announcements was the announcement that another Harvest Moon game is on the way for 3DS and so is a Rune Factory title. But the problem is Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns was just barely released for 3DS this month in North America. It also hasn't been around in Japan that long either. Nintendo has been announcing other games very early as well like announcing Smash Bros before it even began development.

So why did Iwata already confirm the next Harvest Moon title? I mean seriously the last one just hit the market is announcing the next one so quickly a smart idea? Is it an act of desperation? Why is it being announced so early?

Whats with all these announcements of titles that aren't in development yet or so early in development usually they wouldn't be announced for another year or so?

It is a message to get on the 3DS train.

While there are some examples of early announcements here and there, Nintendo generally waits till games are far along before announcing them. Your examples are the exceptions not the rule

And I don't consider their announcing Harvest Moon an effort to hype up 3DS, the game just isn't that popular. Them announcing DQX so many years ago is a better example... (although I'm not sure if it was
SE or Nintendo who did it)

Yeah, I thought it typical that Nintendo usually waits until a couple months or so, or at least until it has been far in development, before a game's release to announce it.

Well for SSM, ninty also announce it way early for the Wii . They announced it practically the same time they announce the wii I think. So its nothing new for that franchise. And well harvest moon already has a trailer so its not like its still on the drawing board or somethin. And harvest moon is a very niche game anyway.

Honestly, I think this topic don't even deserve a thread.

If anything,  Harvest Moon, and Rune Factory were to build the software lneup up in Japan even further. They probably don't want the 3DS to wind up like the Wii. They want to keep the software flowing.

According to post-E3 reports from Sakurai, the Smash Bros. announcement was so that they could find a development team.

I did think a few of the e3 announcements were premature, but otherwise i haven't seen worrying deviations

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I don't see how they can be rushing when they aren't really announcing much to begin with, at least not for Wii

Smash bros. definitely got announced way to early lol

Harvest Moon is a great game i miss playing it on my DS
