Forums - Gaming - I'm new to Final Fantasy, where do I start?

I'd start with FF XII, it is the most refined Final Fantasy experience. If you like it then play FF XIII-2 when it gets released. There's no point going backwards unless you find that you love Final Fantasy. The games have not continuity so there's no reason you have to play them in order. Well except the ones with a number in their title.

Now if you want to play the greatest RPG of all time, get yourself a Sega Saturn and a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga. It's expensive, but it's value keeps going up so when you're done you should be able to sell it for a small profit or at the very least break even. So long as you don't ruin it while it's in your possession. I'm not going to list the many many reasons why this hidden gem is so good, but if you want to know just google it. It's still my favorite RPG of all time, yes I prefer it over even FF VII and FF VI.

No don't let the FFXIII hate get to you. I think it's a great first choice. The characters and the story are exactly as cheesy as all previous FF so whatever people say is wrong. You have to try the combat system yourself to be able to judge it. Some will like it and some won't. Just try it.

OP, whatever you do, never listen to Boutros suggestions on ANY game, EVER.

i'm talking about experience here.... -_-;

I'll never forget your advice.

Start with FFXIII and work backwords based on fan opinion.

That's what I do when i go into a critically acclaimed series late.

That way the "bad" ones seem good to me because i don't realize how much better the best ones are.

Since usually the bad games of a critically acclaimed series aren't really bad, they just seem bad because they don't live up to the title of the series.

If they were a generic game with the same name they'd be loved.

Start with XIII then go VI-X then Stop

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Also, what exactly makes FF13 inferior compared to the other FF games?

character suck so bad , story sucks so bad , combat sucks so bad , corridors cutscene corridors cutscene corridors cutscene .

start with ff vii , for me its the one that have the best story, characters , villains and combat

ITS EPIC

I just had to quote this, because it is absolutely true. Why anybody would recommend XIII in this thread, particularly to start with, is beyond me, unless you know, you really want the OP to run for the hills and never look back.

hmmm.. some people like it, some hate it. I may just skip the game.

Don't. Like I said you can't really listen to others. For example I thought XIII had the best character set in the series but that guy thinks they suck.

It's only 20ish dollars now anyways.

Also VII is good but its so fucking over rated.

I suggest you should start with the very first one, work your way up to 5; skip 6,7,8 and 9; continue with 13 and work your way down to 6 then. (excluding 11 ofc)

This way, you have a great start, the mediocre ones in the middle, and a continous rise in awesomeness (so you won't get bored on your way) working the towards the grande finale with VII and VI at the end.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

FFXIII does sit at 83 on metacritic. I mean it's not like 83 is bad! And it's not like I'm the only one liking it!

Just give it a shot godammit!

I say start with Lost Odyssey. Best Final Fantasy game ever made!

I agree with this for Xbox 360. FFX is also the best experience you can get for past-gen.

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"
