I actually liked the Runies, they looked very cool floating around the town; they added a lot of atmosphere to the game. Plus if you had a lot of them, they would give you bonuses to your crops. I am not sure why you hated them?
Rune Factory Frontier is my most played Home Console game ever; I put in over 100 hours. Also my favourite game this generation on home console. It was a game that gave you a lot of choice about how you proceeded forward.
My impressions of Tides of Destiny (import)
* The town is much more compact than Frontier. There are fewer people as well, but more interaction with the existing people.
* Town is much less atmospheric, thanks to no Runies and other aspects about the setting; less heart for certain.
* Characters are more close to each other in personality, they don't have such wide differences like in Rune Factory Frontier.
* Action/combat is more fun,
* user Interface is much improved, and more useful to the player than Frontier.
* Crafting/minigame system is a little irritating, Frontier was better.
* People are much easier to find in this game, particularly since they display on the map where they are; they also seem to have higher availability.
* No Bathhouse peep shows =( I always thought those to be humerous and fun.
* Farming is very stripped down and highly simplified; you walk around to where a location is where a plant can grow, use your staff, and a sprout will begin - no watering or hoeing or choosing where you want your crops.
* No Farm - You live in town next door to the Inn. Crops are grown on islands outside of town. You reach them by riding on a giant golem. All the combat and such appears on islands outside of town as well.
Overall, the game is better in some areas, but I don't like it as much as Frontier in others. It's my favourite RPG-type game on home console since Rune Factory Frontier - I like it more than Xenoblade and Final Fantasy 13; and I did like both of those two games too, but both were very disappointing compared to previous Final Fantasy and Xeno games. Rune Factory Tides of Destiny doesn't really disappoint me, despite me not liking it quite as much as Frontier. There is certainly a lot more to do in Tides of Destiny.
