Forums - Sales - Catherine Has Shipped 500k

Index, the company that now houses Atlus, was in the red in its previous fiscal year. But there was some bright news in the company's games business thanks in large part to Catherine.

In its earnings statement for the year spanning September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011, Index saw sales of 22,934 million yen, down 34% from the same period last year. The company posted a lower net loss of 4,498 million yen, down from the 7,376 million net loss last year.

The company's games business, which includes Atlus, the mobile focused Index, and the online focused Rosso Index, saw sales of 18,452 million yen and operating profits of 2,695 million yen. The results were boosted by Catherine, which sold 500,000 units in Japan and abroad. The company also mentioned strong brand performance for the Persona series.

For a complete look at Index's earnings, see this earnings statement (PDF, Japanese).

Nsanity, I was just gonna post this!

Excellent. More devs need to follow this pattern, instead of risking tons of assets into one title hoping it becomes profitable.

Excellent news. They took a chance with this game and it paid off for them.

Not to mention that it has not been released in Europe yet (Q1 2012). Great numbers ! Now bring me Persona 5.

bit close to what we have here as sold through... might be a bit overtracked.

Perhaps, what's the usual expectation for shipped versus sold for software?  If I'm reading this correctly these numbers are as of August 31st which would mean that we'd have to compare it to our sold numbers at that point ('bout 5 weeks of sales ago) which was 450k.  Would that be about right or were you already accounting for that?
