Forums - Sony - PlayStation Vita Release Date Confirmed. From IGN.

Japan might be getting the PlayStation Vita this December, but the rest of the world won't have to wait too long after that. Sony has confirmed to IGN that the PlayStation Vita will launch in North America, Australia, Latin America and Europe on February 22, 2012.

I don't get why they don't release it in USA first or at least within a week or two from japan do they really need two or three months to get it here?

Who cares? They're just gonna make a successor in 6 six years that will add the desperately needed 3rd analogue stick that this thing already needs. :P

 History shows that even when they  launch to a single market they will have shortages and holding stock too long costs, so Sony does Japan first because it's their home market and that's what they have historically done , also a couple of weeks isn't enough time to replenish  for a NA launch .So to go into what happens, before Sony announced the Vita's release date , they would have had a good estimate of how many units they needed to launch successfully based off past new console releases and combined this info with their factory production numbers to come up with the dates, the expense of increasing production just to cover for a demand driven shortage that will even itself out after awhile isn't justifiable, Supply is usually looked at in the long term so even years after a consoles release you still see the occasional supply constraint.
