It was pretty close back in the day but Mario has just gotten better while Sonic has gotten worse but has had a recent comeback... sort of.
If we are talking just the pre-Mario 64 days then I would say its very close but I might just give the edge to Sonic. If we include all Mario and all Sonic games then its a clear win for Mario.
Sonic made my childhood. Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2.
And as a character, Sonic is much better!
Mario for me is just Super Mario World, but i love this game!

you are right that Mario is really in a lot more games now and from a character stand point has won out in popularity compared to Sonic.
Basically what I want to know is who were you for in terms of who you liked more back in the early 90s when the ad wars between Mario and Sonic were fresh. It was the days of SNES VS Sega Genesis. If you were not a gamer at that time then it would be what character you like the most in recent times. So it looks like you would be more for Sonic back in the day. He was the new "cool" thing back then.

I don't know why he made such bad decisions, but he had to come back home a few years ago. He's still living at home, but he's finally got a steady job and getting his act together. We went to an interstellar amusement park last Christmas and we had a blast. I haven't seen him that happy in a long time. Mario is like my surprise second child that has excelled in almost everything he's set his mind to, and is now a successful plumber/doctor/kart racer/golfer/tennis player/etc. He even took me on a trip through the universe for my birthday last year. I'm very proud of him for sure. But can I really choose which one I love the most? Guess we'll have to settle this in a brawl... |
